First pitch: White Sox vs. Athletics

This series is already in the bag

With a victory, the White Sox will enter the All-Star break in first place in their division, for the first time since 2021. They could accomplish that without a victory too, but it would require help from the Marlins against the Guardians, and a win would also give the Sox their sixth sweep of the season.

It will surprise no one present here that all five of their prior sweeps came at home as well.

Andrew Benintendi reaches 10 years of MLB service time Sunday. So on top of the largest free agent contract in franchise history, his health insurance is going to be awesome forever. But in seriousness, this is an accomplishment that every major leaguer treats with a lot of reverence.

Noah Schultz has an 8.78 ERA over his last six starts, with 23 strikeouts, 17 walks, and five hit batters in 26 2/3 innings over that span. The Sox have won one of those outings. But there's an argument to be made that his April 19 outing against the A's (5 IP, H, ER, BB, 6 K, HR) was the sharpest of his big league career to date.
