White Sox prospect Jeral Perez

Jeral Perez

Two updates from the White Sox middle infielder ranks:

*Jeral Perez was bumped back to Winston-Salem after hitting .180/.282/.281 over 60 games with Birmingham. He hadn't found any real traction at any point over his first three months in Double-A. June was theoretically his most productive month (.232/.317/.357), but it was accompanied by a strikeout rate that climbed to 32 percent.

He's 21, so he's young enough to deal with repeating a level, but with less contact and more grounders, it did illustrate the challenges he'll have with continuing to lift and pull against more advanced pitching.

*Javier Mogollón was indeed placed on the 7-day injured list with a hamstring problem that has kept him out of action since June 12. This is the second consecutive season where he's dealt with such an injury, and the second time it's disrupted an encouraging start, as he was hitting .266/.371/.469 with 22 stolen bases in 27 attempts. He only appeared in 51 games last season, and he hit the IL after 50 games this year, so shelf life appears to be an issue.

Rochester 3, Charlotte 1

  • Edgar Quero was 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • Shane Murphy: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, 1 WP, 1 HBP, 55 of 96 pitches for strikes.

Knoxville 7, Birmingham 3

  • Anthony DePino went 1-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Colby Shelton was 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

Winston-Salem 13, Hub City 1

  • Kyle Lodise went 1-for-4 with two walks, two strikeouts and a stolen base.
  • Boston Smith was 2-for-3 with three walks.
  • George Wolkow went 2-for-4 with two walks and a stolen base.
  • Jeral Perez, 2-for-3 with two walks and an HBP, and was caught stealing.
  • Wikelman González: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 13 of 20 pitches for strikes.
  • Grant Umberger: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 52 of 74 pitches for strikes.

Kannapolis 4, Columbia 1

  • Jaden Fauske went 1-for-3 with two walks and a strikeout. He was caught stealing.
  • Matthew Boughton was 2-for-4 with a homer and a strikeout.
  • NIck McLain was 0-for-4 with a K.
  • Alexander Albertus, 1-for-4.

Highlights:

*Boughton's homer was a true "just enough" shot.

ACL Rangers 12, ACL White Sox 4 (7 innings)

  • Jordan Rich went 2-for-4 with a strikeout, and was caught stealing.
  • Yordani Soto, 2-for-4 with his fourth homer.
  • Christian Gonzalez was 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Landon Hodge walked once and struck out twice.
  • Eduardo Herrera doubled and struck out twice.
  • Alejandro Cruz struck out twice.
  • Christian Oppor: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 2 WP

Notes:

*Seems like this box score might have to be amended because Herrera shows up twice in the lineup, and he comes to the plate four times versus Hodge's three even though Hodge is hitting ahead of him.

DSL Cubs Red 11, DSL White Sox 6 (7 innings)

  • Samuel Luis singled, walked twice and struck out once.
  • Carlos Vielma went 0-for-2 with two walks.
  • Sebastian Romero went 1-for-4 with a double and a strikeout.
  • Ronald Cardozo was 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.
