Only the White Sox rookie leagues were active on Monday, and the box scores below aren't anything to write home about.
But while we have the attention focused solely on the two lowest rungs of the White Sox minor league system, for better or for worse, Baseball America highlighted some performances from these squads in their weekly fantasy-focused RoboScout feature:
If RoboScout were ready to publish a top DSL hitters list, a pair of 16-year-olds would rank in the top two spots. And they’re going about it very differently.
Brewers infielder Leanders Matos, who we mentioned last week, is showing power, speed and some whiff. White Sox shortstop Carlos Vielma has an excellent 192 wRC+ over 42 plate appearances, though with no home runs or steals with a .219 ISO.
And:
Keep an eye on a pair of catchers. Orioles 16-year-old backstop Luis Dias has a home run, a better than 3-to-1 walk-to-strikeout ratio and a 179 wRC+ through 31 plate appearances. White Sox catcher Ronald Cardozo has advanced defensive tools but also has two home runs, a 210 wRC+ over 23 plate appearances, and a walk rate of 27% while striking out less than 6% of the time The 17-year-old Venezuelan is showing compelling skills early.
Yordano Soto ranked seventh among hitters in the ACL, although without any blurb to accompany it. That's as good as it's going to get this morning.
