White Sox Minor Keys: April 4, 2026

Baseball on the street
Jim Margalus / Sox Machine

The same storm system postponed both games in my area Saturday, so instead of seeing a few innings of Winston-Salem playing Bowling Green before heading back to Nashville in order to catch Tanner McDougal's start, I'll have to settle for a single Charlotte game today to close out the weekend.

It wasn't entirely a wash. I had time to pay attention to George Wolkow's batting practice session, and it certainly stands out in A-ball. He hit a couple of balls that caused the Dash player shagging flies in right field to about-face, and as the players returned to the clubhouse and the grounds crew took over to prepare a field that wouldn't be used, I walked outside the stadium to see if I could find them.

One I could see from the concourse:

And the other required a little more walking.

Birmingham 6, Knoxville 2

  • Rikuu Nishida was 1-for-2 with a walk, HBP, sac bunt and two stolen bases.
  • Braden Montgomery went 0-for-2 with two walks, a strikeout, a sac fly, and was caught stealing.
  • Caden Connor went 2-for-5 with a strikeout.
  • Ryan Galanie was 1-for-3 with a homer, beanball and strikeout.
  • Jeral Perez, 2-for-4 with a double.
  • Samuel Zavala was 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
  • Connor McCullough: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 33 of 57 pitches for strikes.
  • Riley Gowens in relief, probably just to get him going: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 25 of 36 pitches for strikes.

Kannapolis 19, Hill City 2

  • Jaden Fauske went 2-for-3 with a dobule and two walks.
  • James Taussig replaced him and homered.
  • Billy Carlson was 2-for-4 with an HBP and a strikeout.
  • Javier Mogollon was 1-for-3 with two walks, an HBP and a strikeout.
  • Boston Smith doubled, singled and struck out thrice.
  • Rylan Galvan homered, singled, walked twice, struck out once, got beaned and stole a base.
  • Blaine Wynk: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 19 of 30 pitches for strikes.

Notes and highlights:

*The Cannon Ballers scored 12 runs in the first inning on this sequence: Walk, HBP, walk, ground-rule double, HBP, walk, sac fly, homer, walk, single, single, walk, strikeout, homer, single, walk, lineout.

*Galvan got hit in the helmet his first time up, then homered before the inning was over.
