Tristan Gray

As James mentioned in Saturday's pregame notes, the White Sox added utility infielder Tristan Gray to the 40-man roster.

Gray, who joined the organization as a non-roster invitee this past spring, has played in 61 games for Charlotte with a relatively even distribution of playing time around the infield: 24 starts at second, 16 starts at third, and 14 starts at short. That effectively covers Vinny Capra's skill set without requiring a spot on the 26-man roster, and Gray's left-handedness could also be a factor in any plans if the White Sox move (on from) Josh Rojas.

It's also not great news for Bryan Ramos, in the sense that Ramos is no longer the default next man up if the White Sox needed an infielder but didn't want to carve out a spot for somebody new. Ramos' average dropped to .195 after an 0-for-5 night at the plate on Saturday, and that's been the story for a few weeks now, as he's 7-for-55 with one double over his last 17 games.

Notes:

*Bergolla was replaced defensively after striking out looking in the top of the fourth inning. He'd fouled off a couple of pitches during the plate appearance, but didn't look especially pained in doing so.
