After making their top three picks on Sunday, the White Sox will fill out the remainder of their 2025 draft class in the second and final day of the MLB draft today starting at 10:30 a.m. CT.
The two-day draft is a departure from the way it had been done. Day 1 used to be limited to the first two rounds, Day 2 covered rounds 3-10, and then the final day covered 11-20. Given that teams used to make 30 selections on Day 3 when the draft was 40 rounds, teams are easily able to make keep things in order for 17 picks a day.
While everybody gets a day of their life back, what we lose is a convenient shorthand for draft picks. "Day 1" still survives as a way to label players who required significant resources to sign, but "Day 2" and "Day 3" were generally accurate designations for selections whose MLB success could and could not have been predicted. Alas.
