Jairo Iriarte isn't officially a reliever, but as James wrote up after his conversation with Matt Zaleski, there are no immediate plans to move him back to starting, which gives me the sense that the White Sox aren't going to mess with success if his stuff comes back to him in the bullpen. Perhaps like Mike Vasil, he'll stretch himself back out by showing an ability maintain effectiveness for a second inning ... and then a third ... but since the Iriarte's second option season is halfway over, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to force that project upon him in 2025.
This being the case, if Iriarte is a reliever until he isn't, his performance on Tuesday night is probably what it's supposed to look like.
Iriare struck out the side in the seventh inning around a one-out Ryan Kreidler double, and in an overpowering fashion. He led the way with his slider, generating five swings on nine pitches and getting four whiffs, but the other stuff served its purpose just as well. His fastball sat at 95 and went 5-for-5 in finding the zone, and was comfortable enough throwing his two changeups consecutively, resulting in a swinging strike three from Gage Workman.
Since returning from Arizona and moving to the bullpen, Iriarte's line: 10 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 14 K.
