Peyton Pallette

While Korey Lee's return to Chicago was part of Tuesday's biggest news, Peyton Pallette taking Mike Clevinger's place on the Charlotte roster among a number of Triple-A transactions shouldn't be overlooked on both sides of the equation.

Pallette showed what he needed to show at Birmingham, earning a promotion with 10 consecutive scoreless outings spanning 12⅓ innings, with six hits and three walks against 20 strikeouts.

He made his Charlotte debut in Buffalo on Tuesday, and he'll have to start a new scoreless streak after giving up a run over 1⅔ innings. He pitched around a one-out single with his first two Charlotte strikeouts, showing excellent command of his breaking stuff. A leadoff double in his second inning of work came around to score on a groundout and a very wild pitch, as Pallette threw a slider well over everybody around the plate.

He gave up both hits on the fastball, and that'll probably be the pitch to watch now that he's on the doorstep of the majors, because it's not a typically overpowering offering for how much he uses it. His first batch of Statcast data shows him averaging 95 with it, and while it did a good job setting up counts for his breaking balls, he might not be able to be as aggressive with it as the league starts seeing him.

As for Clevinger, he merely went on the injured list. He's followed up his 7.94 ERA in Chicago with a 7.13 ERA in Charlotte, but the White Sox are loath to give up on this project for reasons that continue to escape me.
