White Sox Minor Keys: April 18, 2025

Truist Field in Charlotte

(Laura Wolff / Charlotte Knights)

When can a White Sox fan be assured that the White Sox organization has seen enough of Mike Clevinger? Probably when Clevinger retires or Justin Isbhia cleans house, whichever one happens second.

Clevinger cleared waivers, of course, and while he had the service time to reject an outright assignment to the minors, he accepted it, of course. He already went through an entire winter without sufficient interest from the other 29 teams, and nothing he did in his time as a reliever changed any minds, so the White Sox continue to be his last resort.

So he's still in the organization, and considering Martín Pérez just left his Friday start with forearm tightness and the only Charlotte starter making a credible case for an audition is Justin Dunn, the White Sox are intent on finding the path of least resistance for him.

As former White Sox farm director Buddy Bell put it, "I never say it can't get any worse."
