James covered Dan Altavilla, Omar Narváez and Brandon Drury coming back to the White Sox after being released from spring training in Tuesday's pregame notes. Today brings Travis Jankowski, whom the White Sox announced is back with the club on a minor league deal after his DFA on Sunday to make room for Mike Tauchman.
Jankowski has to curse his timing a little bit, because he might still be on the major league roster had Andrew Benintendi's initial discomfort from slamming into the wall on a running catch on Saturday sidelined him. Instead, Benintendi soldiered through it until it flared up further on him during Sunday's game, and now he's on the 10-day injured list with a left adductor strain. The placement is retroactive to Monday, so the attempt to wait it out didn't cost them anything besides playing one man short for one game.
Instead of Jankowski, Greg Jones is taking Benintendi's spot on the 26-man roster. Who is Greg Jones? He's an athletic utility man the White Sox claimed from Colorado amid their roster shuffle ahead of Opening Day. His profile has been plagued by a stratospheric strikeout rate, and this season is no different, as he's 4-for-29 with 14 strikeouts in eight games with Charlotte. He has some pop and can steal a base, and while it's true that he can't steal first, he's trying to compensate by getting plunked four times in 35 plate appearances.
