I was so distracted by the debut of White Sox first-round pick Jacob Gonzalez on Monday that I missed that a few other 2023 draft selections played their first professional games alongside him.
*Calvin Harris (fourth round) was 1-for-3 with a strikeout.
*Eddie Park (eighth round) went 0-for-3
Sox Machine regrets the oversight.
Durham 9, Charlotte 7
- Lenyn Sosa went 2-for-5 with two strikeouts.
Biloxi 7, Birmingham 4
- Terrell Tatum went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
- José Rodríguez, 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
- Alsander Womack was 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
- Luis Mieses, 0-for-4.
- Yoelqui Céspedes went 1-for-4.
- Adam Hackenberg, 2-for-3 with a walk.
- Jared Kelley: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K, 1 HBP, 38 of 67 pitches for strikes.
Greensboro 13, Winston-Salem 2
- Jacob Burke went 2-for-4 with a strikeout, and 1-for-2 on the basepaths.
- Colson Montgomery had his first clunker: 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
- Wilfred Veras hit his 10th homer, singled, struck out twice and stole a base.
- Wes Kath was 0-for-3 with a K.
- Loidel Chapelli was 0-for-2 with a walk.
- Josimar Cousin: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

- Brooks Baldwin went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.

- Stiven Flores went 2-for-5.
- Juan Uribe Jr. walked thrice and struck out once.

Tim Elko 890 ops needs on this list. If you are looking to replace someone cespedes and kath seem miles away from relevant at this point the only thing carrying them is name recognition or where they were drafted
24 year olds with a 30% k rate in A ball and a 25% k rate in A+ typically aren’t MLB players. You’re probably looking at an AAAA player at best.
Thats fair, but his walk rate and home run rate say he can sustain a decent amount of strikeouts… he probably is a 4A player but a lot of guys in these reports are that as well.
As a AAAA player, he would fit right in with the current 26 man roster. Unless he is also durable of course.
He has a track record of playing through injuries.
What exactly is the plan with Jared Kelley?
Was thinking it would be good for the Sox to field two teams in the ACL. Then realized the Sox already have the 2nd worst record. The team with the worst record is one of 2 AZ teams.
Rays are in deep talks with the Sox for Lynn
They should be as good as anyone at making adjustments with him
Definitely. He’s still 14th in the majors (among starters) in k% so the stuff still plays. Should get some positive regression on the home runs. Rays will tweak something and he’ll probably become a useful pitcher for them
Kelley did strike out the second best prospect in the game, Jackson Chourio. Partly with the help of a generous strike 3 call, but he did get two whiffs on curveballs.
