Sporcle Saturday: Let’s remember some grand slams

Good morning!

Jake Burger’s grand slam to seal a sweep over the Tigers was the first walkoff grand slam since 2014 (and ninth in team history), and it was also the first grand slam hit by a White Sox this season. Entering Thursday evening, the White Sox were the 24th team to record a grand slam this season. They’ve got a ways to go to catch the MLB team lead, though: the Dodgers have already hit seven (!).

As you’ve no doubt sussed out by now, grand slams are what today’s Sporcle is all about: which players since 1990 have hit at least one grand slam in a season? There are 130 entries: how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted 15 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I’ve provided the year and the position of the player. If a player hit more than one in a season, I’ve notated a parenthetical number next to the year.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • Dating back to 1957, the Sox have had a player hit a grand slam at least once during a season, except for 1980.
  • No player has hit more than 4 in one season for the White Sox, though it has happened twice: once in 1997 and again in 2008.
  • Since 1916, the White Sox have hit 286 grand slams.

A great “Remember Some Guys” quiz! 127/130 before I ran out of time. I forgot a guy from 1998 for reasons that might blot Mike Clevinger out of my mind a few years from now, and two from 2010.

RWShow

Nice quiz. I did relatively well for a person with my particular Sox-quiz-related limitations, but my ability not to remember Dayan Viciedo in every quiz he’s an answer in is astounding. I have an acute case of The Dumb.

121/130. 7 of my misses were from 2012 to now, including one current member of the Sox, who was woefully out of position when he hit his grand slam. Another great quiz, Ted!

I also missed the 1998 guy and the same guy that RWShow keeps missing!
