Baseball America's latest recap of minor league transactions shows the White Sox thinning out their ranks across the board. They signed Kyle Crick and added him to Charlotte, where he's thrown a couple of scoreless innings, but the rest are departures:
- Pitchers: Sal Biasi, Danny Dopico, Tayron Guerrero, Connor Sadzeck, Cameron Beauchamp
- Position players: Lency Delgado, EP Reese, Nick Williams
It's been quite the fall for Williams, if only because he shouldn't have ever risen to cleanup hitter in April, but that seems like ancient history now. Guerrero and Sadzeck both seemed like they had the potential to contribute to the White Sox from the NRI pool, but they instead added to the Charlotte bullpen's struggles. I never quite understood why Dopico got most of the assignments he did, but after walking 27 batters over 19⅔ innings with the Knights, everybody's seeing the same things now.
Delgado was the rare-at-the-time fourth-round pick out of high school in 2018, but the lost year looks like a missing link. He went from posting a .274/.325/.377 line with a 37.5 strikeout rate in Great Falls in 2019 to .194/.256/.313 with 50.3 percent strikeout rate over 157 plate appearances for Kannapolis this season.
