White Sox Minor Keys: July 9, 2021

Truist Stadium, home of the Winston-Salem Dash

The start to Eloy Jiménez’s rehab stint had to wait a game, as the Winston-Salem Dash’s game against Hickory was rained out on Friday.

While we wait for Jiménez to make some news, a couple updates from other members of the Dash.

Yoelqui Céspedes: I’d missed James Fegan’s overview of Céspedes’ delayed start to his 2021 season, as it was buried at the bottom of his article about Lance Lynn.

His entrance to affiliated ball was delayed by over a month and a half due to work visa issues, and he is not expected to play the outfield until the middle of the month as he builds up strength in his right arm after a bout with shoulder soreness.

Luke Shilling: One of the best pitching stories from the White Sox’s low minors has been put on hold.

This is Shilling’s first Tommy John surgery, but the start of his pro career was delayed by a torn lat that required the same surgery Jake Peavy had.

And that’s an ERA drop for Lopez to (checks) 7.62?!
At least his K rate is good? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sad news about Shilling, and I hope his knowledge of what he has been able to overcome already has him in a good frame of mind as he prepares for another long rehabilitation.

Tim Anderson is headed to Denver!

Blake Rutherford and Konnor Pilkington sound like names I made up for one of my baseball dice games back in the 1980s.

They sound like guys who wear sperry deck shoes and polos with the collars pulled up.

You have to have players like that in a dice game though. That makes it more fun when a guy named Doc
McGrady rolls triple sixes and hits one into the upper deck.
