  • Gavin Sheets homered and struck out thrice.
  • Jimmy Lambert: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K

Birmingham 14, Montgomery 8 (11 innings)

  • Romy Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a homer, two walks and a stolen base.
  • Micker Adolfo was 2-for-6 with a double, two strikeouts and a stolen base.
  • Ti’Quan Forbes went 4-for-6 with two doubles.
  • Jason Bilous: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 HR

Greenville 2, Winston-Salem 1

  • Duke Ellis went 0-for-3 with two walks.
  • Lenyn Sosa, 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Luis Curbelo was 0-for-4 with a K.
  • Yolbert Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a double.

Carolina 6, Kannapolis 2

  • Jose Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a homer and a walk.
  • Chase Krogman did the same, except he struck out in his other two plate appearances.
  • DJ Glandey went 1-for-4.
  • Bryan Ramos was 1-for-3 with two walks.
  • Caberea Weaver went 1-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Harvin Mendoza, 1-for-4.
  • James Beard, 0-for-4 with a K.
  • Bailey Horn: 4 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Is there any update on Cespedes? I think it was well over a month ago that a blurb was published about him having visa issues. Seems crazy that he has missed this much of the season already, when they signed him 6 months ago. Can only hope he shows up pretty soon and doesn’t miss most or all of the season.

Fry had his first imperfect outing, giving up a couple runs. But with his 6 other scoreless outings, including back to back days and a two inning stint, I would have hoped he was on the cusp of being called back up. Hope we see him pretty soon.

I’m guessing that Cepsedes and Vera will play in the DSL this year for tax purposes, but I haven’t seen that confirmed anywhere.

According to James Fox of FutureSox he is still in extended waiting on visa issues.

Dumb question, but if he has an issue with his work visa then how is he working in Arizona?

joewho112

I have the same question

I think the visa is more about trying to keep him in the country than it is getting him here, but I still don’t see why a visa issue would allow him to work in Arizona but not Birmingham… unless extended spring training can somehow technically not be considered work but playing for a minor league team would? What I’m trying to say is, I have no damn idea.

In that same Twitter thread, James Fox gives a reason:

Thank you! Is Vera going through the same thing, or is he even stateside?

Thanks. At least he’s here in the US, I did not know that. Hope he plays at Birmingham soon, but at least he does not need to escape his home country!

I guess I don’t care if we see Jace Fry ever again. But, yay! Depth!

What does the split look like for Bilous, before and after Jim wrote about him, lol

LuBob DuRob

Maybe he should lay off Gonzalez in the fortnight write up.

And how bout that Rutherford getting 2 doubles on a 1 for 4 night!?!?

GrinnellSteve

He’s a special player.
