White Sox Opening Day roster, lineup and First Pitch
Of course the White Sox’s most anticipated season in 15 years opens on the West Coast … at night. Now I understand Hawk Harrelson’s seething hatred for Anaheim start times.
That gave the Sox plenty of time to finalize their roster, and they did so today. The only item of unfinished business was which player they were going to designate for assignment in order to make room for the extra off-roster player, and it turned out to be Bernardo Flores Jr., who was claimed by the Cardinals.
Here’s the 26-man roster:
And here’s tonight’s lineup, which is sure to generate gripes aplenty, whether for batting Adam Eaton second, slotting Leury Garcรญa ahead of Luis Robert, or omitting Andrew Vaughn completely.
And here’s who Lucas Giolito and company will face:
Not crazy about the lineup. The worst part is that Eloy isn’t in it.
Happy baseball 1st day. Go Sox!
why am I seeing all these ads?
Alright, let’s go great season! (even though Moncada struck out as I was writing this)
Also, the RIP Eloy memes on twitter are cracking my ass up.
That change up was sick! I’m officially done waiting for the Giolito regression.
How many whiffs did he get there? At least 4.
Luis Robert manufactures runs himself.
Turns out Giolito is still good without James McCann.
I donโt mind this start time actually. ๐
Eaton… man… don’t make me let you out of the doghouse.
If he hits as many dingers as cuss words I said when he signed I’ll take it all back
Joc Pederswho?
Eaton batting 2nd homers. Robert steals 3rd base with two out and then scores on a wild pitch. TLRโs a genius!
I am honestly looking forward to TLR bullpen management. I think he would be a lot better than Renteria
Giolito’s gotta be amped. He’s falling off the side a lot like he did before his renaissance in ’19.
Is Giolito done after 5? Maybe a different pitcher each of the last four innings? Sign me up.
I like the quick hook there. Ricky and Cooper would be trying to stretch him.
Phew…difficult inning. Trout and Rendon not easy outs
That was my reaction, too.
Man this bullpen is gonna be crazy… first guy out throwing 100 in your face
That slider never looked good for Gio tonight.
It’ll be interesting to see how much it develops over the start of the season. Or doesn’t
Does old man La Russa not understand the challenge rules?
LaRussa knows about instant replay, right?
TLR not challenging in the 7th? just before top of the order coming up? in a 1-run game? on a steal where Madrigal looks safe? come on guys
Hope it’s a learning experience rather than a habit.
He looked safe on the first angle, out on the second.
I do have to say I feel so much more comfortable with tlr making bullpen decisions late in game vs renteria… for once in a very long time I trust our managers decisions and thatโs huge
Trout being trout
Nick Madrigal doing 2020 Madrgal things….bad things
Nickโs mom needs to get his Ritalin refilled tomorrow
It’s so frustrating because he’s supposed to cover up all his deficiencies with elite defense, speed and OBP. It seems he only has 1 of those 3.
as frustrating as it is, it just looked like nerves got the most of him there. He knows its a 1-run game and Trout is on deck. I gotta think experience will calm those and we will stop seeing errors like that from him.
Bummer with an eponymous outing
Great to see Grandal and Bummer both living up to those contracts. And Zack Collins still sucks.
Zero reason for Leury to hit in the 9th. Completely overmatched. Why carry bench bats and a glove first (only) outfielder if you can’t use them to avoid batting your worst hitter in the 9th inning of a one run game?
