Guest: Eric Longenhagen, FanGraphs and author of Future Value: The battle for baseball’s soul and how teams will find the next superstar.
Early Spring usually brings new baseball books, and our good friend of the show, Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs, released his first one. It’s called Future Value, and it takes a look into how baseball works behind the scenes. He shares his unique insight on the MLB draft, International Signings, and how the league will handle those two critical processes in 2020. Buy the book from your local bookstore or from Triumph Books.
We also breakdown another proposed solution by MLB to having games in 2020, watching Lucas Giolito on Twitch, and answer your questions in P.O. Sox:
Will you watch KBO games?
This team was constructed with the Twins in mind as its primary divisional foe. If the Sox had to compete in a division with the angels and dodgers, how does that change the odds of post-season play? how might that affect the Sox decision with Kopech, Madrigal, and any other meaning prospect whose service time is fluid?
Which player's at-home workout video do you like best? (I am partial to Sean Dolittle employing his dog for weight-bearing exercises.)
Patreon P.O. Sox Questions:
If part or all of the season is played in Arizona with no fans, an important part will be getting the games on TV. Do you think games will wind up being in the central time window? Might still be hot at 5pm mountain standard. Also, what about having 3 games a day at chase field, and potentially tape delaying the early games (embargoing all media) until the normal 7pm central time window?
How does whatever disruption occurs in 2020 influence a potential work stoppage following the 2021 season? Say if there is no baseball in 2020 does that make the parties more agreeable to avoiding a labor stoppage in 2022?
Hi Jim & Josh! Jim I hope you are settling in to Nashville, Josh keep grinding on that PS4 your clips get me pumped for the next time I will be at the park. As a teacher I have been trying a bunch of different modes of e learning with varying levels of success. Question for you is have the white sox as an organization designed E workouts or E throwing programs for players? Just not sure what lines of communication have been. Would love Eloy to be shagging fly balls all day everyday while keeping safe away from others both for Covid-19 reasons and when we return to play Luis Robert for baseball reasons!
