It was an exciting Opening Weekend in College Baseball. Perhaps no team had more fun than the Michigan Wolverines, who avenged their National Championship loss thanks to a ninth-inning home run to beat Vanderbilt. Then they shut out the mighty Arizona State Sun Devils. For the first time in school history, Michigan is the top-ranked team in Baseball America's Top 25.

A series I kept a close eye on was Louisville vs. Ole Miss. A tough road trip to start for the Cardinals as the Rebels are a Top-25 program with a good, young core. LHP Reid Detmers took the hill in the opener (Sox Machine #9 ranked prospect) and ran into trouble early, allowing the first two batters to reach. With runners on the corners and no outs, Detmers displayed what makes him such a good pitcher by striking out the next three batters to escape without allowing a run.
