PREAMBLE
Building towards a winning 2020
ARBITRATION-ELIGIBLE PLAYERS
Write “tender” or “non-tender” after each player. Feel free to offer explanation afterward if necessary.
- Jose Abreu, $16M - tender
- Avisail Garcia, $8M - tender
- Yolmer Sanchez, $4.7M - tender
- Carlos Rodon, $3.7M - tender
- Matt Davidson, $2.4M - tender
- Leury Garcia, $1.9M - non-tender
- Danny Farquhar, $1.4M - non-tender
CLUB OPTIONS
Write “pick up” or “decline” after the option.
- Nate Jones, $4.65 million/$1.25M buyout - pick up
- James Shields, $16 million/$2M buyout - painfully decline
OTHER IMPENDING FREE AGENTS
Try to retain, or let go?
- Miguel Gonzalez (made $4.75 million in 2018) - bye
- Hector Santiago (made $2 million in 2018 — added) - bye
FREE AGENTS
List three free-agent targets you’d pursue during the offseason, with a reasonable contract. A good example of a bad idea:
No. 1: Josh Donaldson (three years, $45 million). Yolmer is more of a utility guy, and could play third while donaldson is DH'ing thanks to an injury ridden 2018 season
No. 2: Dallas Keuchel (Five years, $110 Million) Proven ace who will provide stability and is a much needed lefty in the rotation.
No. 3: Andrew McCutchen (Two years, $30 Million) Veteran guy for up and coming players, can play all three outfield spots
TRADES
Propose trades that you think sound reasonable for both sides, and the rationale behind them. A good example of a bad idea:
No. 1: Trade Avi Garcia to Cleveland for Adam Cimber. Trade a guy who will be out of a spot, receive a proven bullpen arm. Might be an overpay, but Avi has no spot on the team and Cleveland needs an OF.
No. 2: Trade Welington Castillo and Konnor Pilkington to Dodgers for Joc Pederson. LA will need a catcher if Yaz leaves in FA, fills a hole for them and gives us a high upside guy who can play center and takes him out of an outfield jam in LA.
