White Sox Minor Keys: Aug. 11, 2023
Calvin Harris got the Jeff Cohen bump.
On Friday morning, Jeff posed a quick getting-to-know-you video with the White Sox’s fourth-round pick, asking him about his game…
… and then a little bit about Ole Miss and Iowa, where Harris grew up:
Then he went out and hit a walk-off two-run shot in Kannapolis’ 8-7 victory over Down East.
Gwinnett 10, Charlotte 1
- Lenyn Sosa went 1-for-4.
- Adam Hackenberg singled, walked twice and struck out once.
Rome 5, Winston-Salem 3
- Jacob Burke went 1-for-4 with an HBP, but he was caught stealing.
- Loidel Chapelli was 1-for-5 with two strikeouts.
- DJ Gladney left the game after being plunked on the hand/wrist in his only PA.
- Josimar Cousin: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Notes:
*Cousin had a lengthy mound visit in the second inning, during which he pointed to his neck a handful of times. He completed that inning, but he didn’t come out to pitch the third.
*The box score shows Tommy Sommer relieving Cousin, but Sommer left Thursday’s game with an injury. It turns out Anderson Comás actually made his High-A debut in the third inning, and he pitched three scoreless innings.
Kannapolis 8, Down East 7
- Jordan Sprinkle went 2-for-5.
- Calvin Harris maximized his 1-for-4 night: He drew a walk, he scored three runs, and the hit was a walk-off two-run homer.
- Tanner McDougal: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 25 of 38 pitches for strikes.
ACL White Sox 2, ACL Royals 0
- Ryan Burrowes went 1-for-3 with a sac bunt, a strikeout and two stolen bases.
- Ronny Hernandez was 0-for-4 with a K.
- George Wolkow did the same.
- Christian Oppor: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
- Seth Keener: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
DSL White Sox 7, DSL Orioles Orange 3 (7 innings)
- Abraham Nunez went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
- Stiven Flores went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, and he was picked off.
- D’Angelo Tejada got plunked once, struck out twice and stole two bases.
- Rafael Alvarez went 0-for-1 with a walk and an HBP.
From the James Fagen story in todays SunTimes about George Wolkow.
“It’s difficult for us to sign the Aaron Judges on the open market,” Lally said. “It’s more advantageous to try to develop them.”
White Sox ….Develop?
Could be our next Sam Abbott.
Joe Borchard is back!
Great, and then once he becomes a star some other team will sign him because the Sox are too cheap.
White Sox Farm system now ranked 12th in MLB by fangraphs
I wondered if anyone attended the Sabermetrics conference and had anything interesting to report. Katz was scheduled to talk today.
