Colson Montgomery celebrates after his grand slam
(Jim Margalus / Sox Machine)

Come tonight, Colson Montgomery will officially be able to pick up where he left off at the end of the 2022 season, as James Fox says he’ll open a new month back at Birmingham.

Montgomery returns to the Barons having finished with a .500 OBP at each of his two rehab stints. He hit .353/.511/.588 over 10 games in the Arizona Complex League, and followed that up by hitting .348/.537/.552 over 17 games with Winston-Salem.

It looks like he won’t be alone in shifting rosters, because Jacob Gonzalez, Calvin Harris and Eddie Park didn’t appear in Monday’s ACL White Sox game, but a handful of 2023 White Sox draft picks made their pro debuts.

ACL Giants 3, ACL White Sox 2

  • Jordan Sprinkle went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
  • Erick Hernandez struck out in his only plate appearance.
  • Ryan Burrowes was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
  • Ronny Hernandez doubled, singled and struck out twice.

DSL White Sox 15, DSL Padres Brown 5 (Game 1, 7 innings)

  • D’Angelo Tejada went 3-for-4 with a double and a sac fly.
  • Abraham Nunez was 1-for-3 with two walks and a strikeout.
  • Rafael Alvarez, 1-for-4 with a double and a strikeout.

DSL White Sox 19, DSL Padres Brown 1 (Game 2, 7 innings)

  • Stiven Flores went 2-forf-3 with a walk.
  • Juan Uribe Jr. was 1-for-3 with two walks and a strikeout.
  • Luis Reyes: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K

A .537 OBP at A+ lol.

Any news on Jose Rodriguez? He seems to have dropped out of the B’Ham lineup, presumably another in the venerable White Sox tradition of injured players without clear designations.

As Cirensica

He is starting to remind me Bo Bichette when he was in the minors. Bichette put up comedy numbers in the minors (including wRC+ over 200….LOL). The Jays kept promoting him, and Bichette kept posting ridiculous numbers. He roamed in the minors for a bit over 3 years before the Jays were forced to call him up as Bichette never had anything to prove in the minors.

At what point do we start to get a bit excited by Stiven Flores?

I try to hold real excitement until A ball. DSL is so hard to evaluate. But he is at least 17, and not a “man among boys” or anything.

Among qualified 17 y/os in the DSL, White Sox have 4 out of the top 25 in wRC+.

#6 Stivers Flores (catcher)
#13 Adrian Gill (1B,3B,2B)
#22 Javier Mogollon (2B,SS)
#24 Abraham Nunez (OF)

They all have good plate discipline numbers. Who knows if it will mean anything, but it seems way better than previous years.

My fear of jinxing his development is at such a rate that I will not sing his praises till he wins WS MVP

Yesterday the transaction log for Kannapolis confirmed that the trio of college position player draftees are headed there.
