If on Opening Day I had to project the players on the 26 man roster on August 6th, I believe I would have missed a name or two.

Quote from Greenberg’s piece in the Athletic:

“In the midst of a nightmare season in which he’s been, arguably, the least productive hitter in baseball for one of the most unwatchable, disappointing teams in the sport, Anderson squared up and became a baseball-wide punching bag.”

He’s got duh fire and duh passion!

FishSox

That’s a really dip shit comment from Greenberg. Anderson got hit by a stray punch from a guy who wouldn’t even face him head up after instigating the action. Ramirez put his head down like a turtle coward when the punches got tossed. Framing it any other way is revisionist to try and fit an alternative narrative.

“Baseball wide punching bag” is a colorful line that didn’t need to be written. It feels like piling on and I think the more interesting story is what lead to the fight but I guess we’ll never know that because Pedro is waiting for the league to explain to him what happened. So all we have is the Guardians saying that Anderson has been disrespecting the game for years…unlike the classy celebration of the game they had when clinching last season.

FishSox

It’s interesting that “disrespecting the game” was followed by, paraphrasing ” Hard tags” and then the illusion that injuries ensue from hard tags by saying “we all have families to feed”. It’s a BS narrative by Ramirez. Disrespecting the game is an ethics argument and ethics arguments are ambiguous with the bar always being set by the aggrieved party.

Hard tags are a part of the game. Always have been. He’s trying to equate it to taking out a pivot man or coming in spikes up. There are no hard tag injuries that prevent players from making a living. If that’s really his position, he’s a cowardly momma’s boy.

Ramirez challenged TA when he popped up and shoved his finger in Tims face. That’s 100% instigation and fight provocation. I’m not saying Tim handled it well, he could have turned his back and walked away. But, I can understand why he didn’t also, plenty of times I didn’t either but I learned to later on. The fact that Tim got knocked out by a lucky punch to a glass jaw shouldn’t be a source of shaming. He accepted a challenge from a guy trying to bully him and the challenger turned out to be a coward who didn’t expect to be challenged back.

I always liked Ramirez. A lot less so now that I know what a coward he is. He deserves the blame and the public scorn for this. Instead, because the connected on a lucky punch, he’s being semi exalted. That’s just not right.

What stupid thing will get Pedro and Tito ejected today?

I don’t know how any Sox player can feel good about working for Grifol given his lack of support for Anderson.

I’m not qualified to truly judge his work…I’m not a baseball exec and obviously have no insight into his day to day efforts with the team.

But I’m not sure any other organization would keep him as manager after this season. This has been a historically bad season and it feels like the least he could do would be verbally supportive of his player.

GrinnellSteve

They have a veteran manager in the dugout, but you can’t see him because he’s completely invisible. Grifol should be gone before the next series. Montoyo can take the interim tag for the last 2 months, after which the new FO can conduct a full search.

The Sox should be using these last 2 months to evaluate personnel, and the young guys should be evaluated with a real manager at the helm.

JazznFunk

I can easily see Grifol not returning, but my guess would be Montoyo will slide over during the offseason with no new search. But I am also assuming minimal change in the FO, maybe Hahn moving on, as opposed to an entirely new regime

I don’t think any other organization in baseball would have hired him, nor do I have any reason to think that any reasonably competent self-respecting manager would work for this team.

Matt

And that is how the Sox end up with guys like Robin Ventura, Ricky Renteria(promoted since it was easier and ended up looking decent all things considered), the idea of Tony La Russa and now Pedro Grifol. I don’t think anyone wants to work for this team other than friends doing a favor or low end candidates that just want a shot at managing no matter how shameless it looks.

Al Kohallik

Honestly anything JR and the 2 amigos do from now on is meaningless they have no credibility anymore. The only way back is JR sell the team and thats highly unlikely. I can’t rout for the other way, its just not right to wish that on someone no matter how despicable they be

Matt

Yup lol sad state of affairs…and very little is going to change is the expectation

Al Kohallik

Bruce Bochte saw the number on Caller ID and let it ring

JazznFunk

He also went to an up-and-coming team

Al Kohallik

Gotta be known throughout MLB Sox FO is a Mickey Mouse clown school

funkerdan

that is offensive to so many groups. Take it back. Clowns, Mice, Mickey, schools.. don’t deserve these words.

Al Kohallik

I apologize to any clowns, mice , students and anyone named Mickey that I may have insulted or disparaged. My words were hurtful and insensitive

Augusto Barojas

Carlos Rodon looking like a horrible free agent signing by the Yankees. Dude has made all of 6 starts, and has an ERA higher than Lance Lynn. For 27M annually. Woof.

steelydan52

He left the game to boo’s and a hamstring injury. I’m so glad the Sox passed on him.

upnorthsox

Holy shit, 2 errors in a row by the 3B and its not the Sox

upnorthsox

And now their closer collapses, I’m thinking the Sox may win this.

BillyKochFanClub

To be fair, it was more Rocchio than Clase…but I’m not complaining. Sox winning the season series against Cleveland has been a small bright spot in a dismal season.

ChiSoxND12

Nah those were more on Calhoun. Gotta come up with one of those

It’s so nice to see opponents wet themselves for a change, esp in light of yesterday

It was one player playing out of position one hopping a ball to another player playing out of position. Right out of the Sox playbook

steelydan52

If the Sox go 45-4 the rest of the way they will meet my prediction of 90 wins. Maybe I should have clarified that it will take 2 seasons to win 90 games.

BillyKochFanClub

9th inning Sox comebacks are fun. Watching Cleveland this series is a reminder of “oh yeah, they suck too”.

Augusto Barojas

Of course with Andrus getting the game winning hit, they will continue to play him and re-sign him in the offseason, while Sosa sits at AAA until age 30.
