(Jim Margalus / Sox Machine)

Just when it seemed like Colson Montgomery’s back might be worse than White Sox fans were prepared to expect, there he was, appearing in a minor-league lineup and playing a recorded, official baseball game.

Montgomery finally made his 2023 debut with the Arizona Complex League White Sox on Monday night, getting four plate appearances as DH atop the batting order. He lined out in his first trip …

… followed by a triple that there isn’t video of. He then flied out to left and reached on an error by the first baseman, after which he was lifted for a pinch-runner.

So there’s your proof of life. Now he just needs to prove that he’s ready to take on a regular-season workload, even if some of those reps would be provided by the Arizona Fall League.
