Is this the Knights thread? Any word on a start time in Cleveland?

ParisSox

Now that’s a lineup I can live with. This is as must win game as there is.

Adam

This offense is just pathetic. I don’t know why any pitcher doesn’t just bury one pitch after another in the dirt. Every hitter except yas. And he has other issues

Right Size Wrong Shape

Len basically making the same point right now. Saying that Bieber has not thrown many pitches in the zone so far tonight.

Adam

Eloy was up 3-1 and swung at a pitch a foot down and out. Just guessing. No pitch recognition at all

Right Size Wrong Shape

Only one pitch in the strike zone in that at bat.

Foulkelore

There’s plenty to be mad at with this team. The guy who actually walked twice so far probably isn’t it.

Adam

It’s more of a frustration about the team approach. 2-0, 3-0, 3-1, or really 0-0, they should all be looking for their pitch. That’s it. Their pitch or don’t swing. You have an entire at bat left. But they don’t. They just swing at the first decent pitch. It’s so frustrating. That’s why our homers are down. Try pulling a slider away for a homer. You can’t. Wait. Just freaking take a pitch or two.

Look at the Abreu at bat. Bieber walks two guys. He swings at the first pitch. Lazy fly out.

Foulkelore

Sure, that’s fair. I can’t argue with something being wrong with their approach, in general, given that they are 4th worst in home runs and dead last in walk percentage.

Foulkelore

Eloy’s walking a lot lately. He’s looking really good at the plate, other than catching the team-wide virus that makes them not hit home runs.

Popeye hit another home run tonight. Whatever adjustment he’s made has been incredible.

I am hoping spinach is involved.

There’s gotta be an endorsement opportunity there for him down the road.

Foulkelore

We also need to get Tom Paciorek involved.

I’m pretty sure he’ll continue to hit well for the rest of the season because he’s strong to the finish.

Foulkelore

The Moneyball scouts are worried though. He’s got a plain girlfriend, who is really skinny. A plain girlfriend means he lacks confidence.

Foulkelore

Alright, there you go, Jose!

a-t

Bieber cracking in the 6th!

As Cirensica

There’s no more automatic out than the one for a White Sox hitter with a man on 3B and less than 2 outs

Adam

I think they pulled our move and intentionally gave Abreu third. Everyone knows the sox curse

Foulkelore

Why did they send Grandal?!

Foulkelore

And now he’s hurt. It looks bad. I guess it will have to be Perez coming up, right?

Adam

Yep unless anyone else is readily available. I can’t think of any recent releases. Tony Wolters maybe

Right Size Wrong Shape

I would think so. What’s interesting is that any move is going to require releasing someone to make room on the 40 man. Raudy Read is also having a good year and has a little bit of major league experience, but I don’t know if he’s been catching much this season in Birmingham or how good a receiver he is.

Foulkelore

I would enjoy calling him, “Rowdy Raudy Read”, so now I’m torn.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Just looked, and it appears that he’s been a first baseman this season.

SoxBulldog13

Fyi Reese McGuire is batting .375 since changing his Sox. More circumstantial evidence our hitting coach turned has turned awful too. All Sox coaches/manger must go, except for DB

Right Size Wrong Shape

He’s been spanking it all over the lot.

Foulkelore

I would keep Katz over Boston.

Right Size Wrong Shape

I would get rid of Boston before anybody.

Joliet Orange Sox

Menechino was an awful hitting coach for the Marlins and now for the Sox. That said, I think McGuire’s hitting with the Red Sox is a 40-plate appearance mirage. McGuire didn’t hit much in 400 PA with Toronto before before coming over to the Sox.

What has DB contributed that another coach couldn’t?

ForsterFTOG

Daryl Boston is a letch.

Joliet Orange Sox

Daryl Boston would be the first one I’d like to see gone. I know there are some here who argue that the rape allegation did not lead to charges so he’s all good but there’s plenty of people who could do his job with no rape allegations at all which would be my strong preference.

To my knowledge, no one has ever asked him or the White Sox about it on the record. I find that strange.

Adam

This entire staff should be fired today. Minus Katz. Wtf? Why?

Joe McEwing needs to be gone yesterday. I have never seen a third base coach have a worse season.

dwjm3

Just an absurd send

Greg

Even if that was Robert or Engel, that would have been a bad send. Agreed – he needs to be gone.

a-t

Nah, Robert or Engel score from 2nd on a grounder single pretty easy. It’s a bad send with like Vaughn level slowness, and Grandal’s an order of magnitude slower than him

SoxBulldog13

He’s been an absolute joke all year. McEwing is the worst coach in baseball. His only hope would be bench coach but I don’t care tk see that either.

evenyoudorn

It’s really saying something to be the worst uniformed coach on this team but Smokin’ Joe takes it.

a-t

That should be grounds for firing McEwing.

As Cirensica

There was absolutely no reason for McEwing to send Grandal. It costs us a run,and perhaps a catcher.

Adam

Elvis tried to do the right thing. Appreciate the hustle. Just doesn’t know he put himself in purgatory

Adam

So he does it himself!!! Yes. A real ball player

Right Size Wrong Shape

Andrus picking up his coach. 3 nice hustle plays. He’s a winner.

As Cirensica

That was weird but i will take it

evenyoudorn

McEwing for President!

dwjm3

You can tell Elvis Andrus is new to the White Sox as he actually knows how to run the bases

As Cirensica

And not getting injured

ecivokrak

Yeah, watching Cueto’s pitch count and Andrus run the bases is some total competence porn. (Compared to what we’ve seen this year…)

abehickock

That’s what you call a baseball player. We don’t see a lot of that.

I don’t think one commenter has mentioned his name yet tonight, but just thought I should reiterate that I love Johnny Cueto.

Foulkelore

It’s ok to have an unspoken love for Johnny Cueto at this point.

Right Size Wrong Shape

It is right to give him thanks and praise.

ecivokrak

I was just about to post something to this effect. Cueto is my favorite Sox starter since Buehrle. And I’m inspired to get a Cueto jersey! I want to be that guy in 2030 wearing a Cueto jersey to a game, as if to say, “remember that time when Johnny Cueto pitched 2/3 a season with the Sox”? (Kind of like that guy I saw a month ago at the Rate with a Youkilis White Sox jersey.)

Right Size Wrong Shape

I saw a guy where I live going into a bar wearing a Youkilis White Sox jersey about a month ago. I wonder if it’s the same guy.

Adam

That is an excellent point. We all went from hoping for avg 5th starter production to just accepting his incredible greatness as a rule

ParisSox

Cueto replaced Gio, but better, and Gio replaced whatever 5th started we would have thrown out there with likely equal results.

a-t

If they manage to finagle a division title out of this godforsaken year, it is probably going to be largely due to Elvis Andrus.

Rangers beat the Twins in 10.

GrinnellSteve

Will Cueto get some down-ballot Cy Young votes?

Absolutely.

Cueto coming back out. Not crazy about the middle of the order seeing him 4 times.

Adam

We all love Cueto but I hate this call

dwjm3

It’s old school stupid baseball

Right Size Wrong Shape

Well, at least he’s not leaving him in to face the one guy that’s looked good against him tonight.

Foulkelore

Um, Tony?

Big win tonight, with Cease going tomorrow.

Foulkelore

Nice win. Go win the series tomorrow, boys.

Joliet Orange Sox

I remember Mike Huff’s playing career with the Sox. Has he been on the post-game studio show before?

GrinnellSteve

He’s good.
