Joliet Orange Sox

Vaughn finally getting a game off after playing 3 games in a row. TLR resting Moncada after playing one game in a row before his situation turns into a Vaughn-like exhaustion crisis.

FishSox

Can’t sit JH for too long or his bat may cool off.

a-t

It’s a doubleheader today at the beginning of 8 games in 7 days. Vaughn and Moncada will assuredly play in the second game. The complaints about rest are unwarranted today

roke1960

Then why is Leury playing every game? Since Timmy is getting game 2 off for some unknown reason, Leury is the only other shortstop. And he’ll probably lead off.

Foulkelore

TLR loves making sure everybody starts at least one game of a double header. I’m glad they are only carrying 12 position players today.

FishSox

Does everybody still get a trophy?

calcetinesblancos

Why can’t Moncada DH?

roke1960

The Yankees are much older than the Sox, but I didn’t see them resting Stanton or Judge last weekend. Well maybe their manager wants to try to win every game.

calcetinesblancos

Well it’s also stupid because for reasons nobody could understand Tony was resting(?) Vaughn every other game early in the season despite him being our best hitter, and then he got hurt anyway on the HBP. So what did you achieve?

Joliet Orange Sox

The game is scoreless through 4 and the Royals have 4 hits and the Sox has only 2. However, anyone watching this game would say the Sox have hit the ball much much harder off Heasley than the Royals have off Cease. Almost like BABIP fluctuations are real.

Joliet Orange Sox

Through the top of the 5th, the Sox have hit 8 balls with EV of over 100 mph. 5 of those 8 balls have ended up as outs. The xBA for the outs are .410, .670, .860, .660, and .550.

I believe luck always evens out in the long run. In the short term like the first half of the game today, I think it can swing to one extreme or the other.

knoxfire30

The amount of sox fans who think its cool for their best players to sit all the time is as depressing as tlr being the manager.

calcetinesblancos

But if the bench players don’t play regularly, they’ll just be sitting on the bench all the time.

knoxfire30

Classic your terms are acceptable situation.

Also brings up the fact that when the sox fill their suppose starting lineup with fringe platoon and bench player types like at 2nd and rf, we need to keep in mind they basically bench 1 or 2 good starters every game meaning you get 3 to 4 below starter level guys in the lineup daily which is why spending on starting level guys should be more of a priority than a 50 mil pen

soxfan

Considering so many guys have missed time due to injury and/or have a history of missing time due to injury, is it really that depressing to recognize that load management should be a consideration in a 162 game lock-out-shortened season?

Joliet Orange Sox

I think TLR gives guys too many days off. I started the complaining about it with the first comment in this game thread.

That said, I think the fact that the season is lock-out-shortened (same number of games in less time with fewer off days) makes sitting guys out of games more necessary.

soxfan

Right, then add on top of that Pollock’s injury history and injury; Moncada’s recovery; Vaughn’s recent injury and his admitted struggles down the stretch last year; Grandal’s knees; etc. etc. I’m not saying treat the line up line china but I’d rather see them take days off now rather than in September.

mrridgman

I’m more with JOS on this issue. Stanton and Judge have had their share of injuries. TLR did the same thing last year, we didn’t look fresh at the end of the season. Maybe no cause and effect.

Foulkelore

So far, Joe Kelly has not been worth the wait.

soxfan

frealz

Foulkelore

Good job to get out of his own trouble though.

roke1960

Well, at least he had a nice comeback. Hopefully, this will get him going.

Foulkelore

Yeah, he’s better than this, and his stuff has looked fine. His main problem has been control, and hopefully that will get more consistent as he’s still getting going this season.

roke1960

Right. I think when he gets his command back, he’ll be very good.

a-t

it would be nice if the highly paid reliever could not walk the entire punchless royals lineup

a-t

my dodgers fan family members warned me that Joe Kelly was the purest incarnation of chaos but i did not believe them. i certainly do now!

BenwithVen

so, can they put Joe Kelly back on his rehab assignment?

calcetinesblancos

Five walks? Where are the White Sox and what have you done with them?
