Podcast: White Sox missed opportunity vs. Cleveland and look ahead to Detroit trip

Josh and Jim recap the White Sox series against Cleveland. Again, the White Sox lost two out of three against the Tribe thanks to the offense struggling, and more injuries pile up.

Looking ahead, the White Sox are supposed to play in Detroit and then home against the St. Louis Cardinals this upcoming weekend. Will they get those games in?

Burdi mentioned he noticed a video on Twitter that resulted in him making an adjustment that bumped up his velo. Between him and Giolito’s training with his high school coach to up his game doesn’t really shine a light on the Sox pitching coaching staff. I guess that’s not a question, just a point for discussion.

With the early injuries to pitchers and outbreaks of covid cases on the Marlins and Cardinals, is it possible that baseball could finish this season doing more harm than good for the sport?

Is it time to end the narrative around the depth of whitesox starting pitching? Going into 2021 Giolito and Keuchel appear to be the only SPs that can be considered sure things. Cease can’t throw strikes consistently, Kopech, Lambert and Dunning are unknowns, and Lopez and Rodon can’t be relied upon

What do the last 3 1/2 years of Luis Basabe’s career tell us about the team’s player development practices?

Does yesterday’s strange management of pitchers suggest that the Sox aren’t well positioned to win on the margins?

There’s rumors that the big college football conferences will be scrapping fall sports, including football. If that does happen, would that alleviate the ‘pressure’ MLB feels to finish the season and have the playoffs on a normal calendar?

I don’t know if this is worth any kind of followup but I don’t recall seeing summaries of how organizations did in acquiring undrafted free agents. Other than that KC was attracting signees and the Sox didn’t seem to be significant players. Or whether the more clear threat to college sports may cause others to jump ship. These wouldn’t be big names, but this is an org that isn’t in a position to just take a pass on opportunities

And any Cuban news?

According to the Cardinals schedule, it looks like they are still scheduled to play a DH against Detroit on Thursday.

Not anymore.

Chicago’s nightlife did more damage to the Cleveland rotation than the Sox did.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger went out with teammate Zach Plesac in Chicago on Saturday night in violation of team protocol, sources tell ESPN. Clevinger was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday against the Cubs and will quarantine. He flew with the team Sunday.
