White Sox Minor Keys: July 17, 2019
After Rick Hahn briefed the media on Eloy Jiménez’s injury — an ulnar nerve contusion, and we’ll see how soon he regains normal feeling in his hand — he spent a fair amount of time delivering important low-minors prospect updates, which James Fegan relayed.
Yolbert Sanchez: He will likely remain in the DSL the rest of the season, and Hahn attributed the decision to the long layoff between his last regular action, with a defection from Cuba in between. (Unmentioned but important: As Luis Robert’s first pro season showed, there are also tax advantages to spending the whole year abroad.)
*Matthew Thompson and Andrew Dalquist: The White Sox are getting their two highly-touted prep arms ready for the instructional league, and neither will appear in the minor leagues until next season.

Boring alert ?
Missed the Tyler Johnson line. At least that doesn’t stink.
Didn’t think I’d be pining for a Birmingham update as much as I am, especially after how their season started.
Between the scheduled off day and the lesser publicized hiring of William H. Macy to follow Robert around, Hahn is doing everything in his power to temper the excitement surrounding Luis Robert.
Ben Stein to start calling Charlotte games
They’ll be broadcast in grayscale so people will be less inclined to look involuntarily.
Good, Ben would get Robert’s name right on a HR call.
“Robert hit a … anyone? anyone? … home run”
Ben Stien is the modern day Arthur Treacher.
Well Tyler Johnson seems like he’s fully back and healthy. I’d really like to see him up in Birmingham ASAP. He’s the type of guy who could make the 2020 opening day roster if everything breaks right.
*doesn’t break.
Tyler Johnson is a guy who can make the 2019 Bullpen if the FO wanted.
Not the same without BHam. Hope they have Bryce finish the year at Great Falls. The Kann experiment was a bust.
I think at this point you just leave him at Kanny with a little more than a month less. Why give him another blow to his confidence by demoting him. He’s had a couple of positive stretches, just hope he ends on one.
Yeah, he’s had good stretches, and his struggles have been in close proximity to documentable reasons (defensive struggles, injuries). Kanny’s fine.
I agree. I don’t think he’s overmatched, things have just happened.
There is just shy of 2 months left. But I see your point.
Zack Collins walking 4 times when back to AAA is such a Collins thing to do lol
Jim – what is story on Taylor Varnell? Know he’s a late round pick – but like the peripherals (high Ks, low whip) and that he’s a lefty. Why no love?
