White Sox Minor Keys: May 23, 2019
A couple of steps in the right direction for key White Sox prospects Thursday night:
No. 1: Dylan Cease has thrown back-to-back starts of six innings or longer for the first time all season. He allowed just one run over six innings against Gwinnett, throwing a season-high 102 pitches after 98 the game before.
He can improve upon the four walks, although the way he walked four is probably the most harmless way he can do it. He issued two apiece in the third and sixth innings, he erased one with a pickoff, and two of them were with two outs. Despite the occasional control lapses, his workload is starting to resemble that of a major-league pitcher.
No. 2: Nick Madrigal drew three walks in the Dash’s victory over Fayetteville. Granted, one of them was intentional with the winning run on third and one out in the 10th inning, but still. Madrigal had entered Thursday’s game with just two walks in May, which is more than a little concerning for an advanced collegiate hitter in High-A.

something clicked for Basabe. Seems like he’s been on a tear lately.
Last 7 days he is slashing 412/412/529, only 2Ks in 17 PAs.
All right, Cease went 6 innings with 100 pitches. Bring him up now.
At what point do the White Sox need to just send Rutherford back down to Winston-Salem for a while? He’s a little young for AA, so it’s not catastrophic to hold him back another year. Hard to imagine staying confident in your abilities when you’re scuffling to a .507 OPS….
