Cheney Stadium in Tacoma
Cheney Stadium in Tacoma (Jim Margalus / Sox Machine)

I’m in the Pacific Northwest for baseball, but instead of catching the White Sox right away, I headed to a Tacoma Rainiers game and saw a classic Gordon Beckham performance: 0-for-4 with two groundouts, a popout to the right side and a strikeout.

But it’s a fine experience, even before you see the stadium.

Anyway, it was a big night on the farm. Eloy Jimenez hit his fourth and fifth homers at Charlotte, and both were nearly to the same place in the ballpark.

Also:

*The Winston-Salem Dash scored 17 runs.

*Corey Zangari was promoted to Kannapolis, although we’ll see if his midgame departure from his A-ball debut means anything.

*Jimmy Lambert left his start Thursday night, but his condition is not critical:

Charlotte 6, Indianapolis 5

  • Charlie Tilson returned to Triple-A and went 2-for-5 with a double and a strikeout.
  • Eloy Jimenez, 3-for-5 with two homers and a double.
  • Jose Rondon was 0-for-5 with a strikeout.
  • Jordan Stephens: 5.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 WP, 1 HBP
  • Ian Hamilton: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
  • Carson Fulmer: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

More:

Regarding that sign, I do love me some… what is that, art deco? Googie? Whatever. It’s cool.

Steele Walker with a bomb in his first AB for the Voyagers. Think he’s going to surprise a lot of people. Great plate discipline and more pop in his bat than a lot of people on here think.ย

Logan Sowers (28th round pick from Indiana) continues to rake as well, going back-to-back with Walker.ย
