Sporcle Saturday: White Sox All-Stars since 1970

Good morning, and a happy Saturday to all. We’re just a few days away from the All-Star game, so it is once again time to break out the ol’ Sporcle All-Star quiz and test everybody’s knowledge of White Sox players to represent the team in the All-Star game. Last year I asked you to try your hand at naming players from 1980 to the present: this year I’ve added a decade to that; break out your disco attire and get to work. Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • I’ve provided the primary position of the player as a hint, and grouped players by year. You may want to go to Sporcle’s site to fill this one out.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confound, and/or confuse your friends:

  • The White Sox have hit just two home runs –ever– in All-Star games. I guess this shouldn’t be all that surprising given that their first 30-home run player season wasn’t until 1970.
  • The worst pitching performance in an All-Star game came in 1954, when Sandy Consuegra pitched just 1/3 of an inning, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. To be fair, 3 of those 5 players he faced are in the Hall of Fame (Duke Snider, Stan Musial, and Jackie Robinson).

87/93. I got all of the 1970s players—but couldn’t come up with the 1980 pitcher. It’s funny how it’s the teams of this decade that I have the toughest time remembering. Lots of turnover—many names to remember.
