Sporcle Saturday: Who played this year?

With the 2020 season officially in the books, it’s time to activate your memory banks and reflect on who made an appearance for the Chicago White Sox this year. In all, 48 different players logged at least one game with the big-league club, which is generally on-par with a full, 162-game slate. For reference, here are the numbers for the last several years:

  • 2020: 48
  • 2019: 47
  • 2018: 51
  • 2017: 51
  • 2016: 50
  • 2015: 40

This year’s squad featured 21 position players and 27 pitchers while the average age of each set remained the same as last season: 27.6 years old. So, your Sporcle for today: try to name every player who made an appearance for the team this season. How many can you get? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted 15 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I’ve provided the number of games for each player, their position, and have grouped by batters first, followed by pitchers.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • This year’s offense scored 306 runs in 60 games, almost half of what the 2015 team scored over a full season (622).
  • Following up on the previous item, this team was on pace to score 826 runs over a 162 game schedule, which would have been their most since 2006 (868).
  • As for runs allowed, they averaged 4.1/game, good for a pace of 664 RA, fewest since 2005 (645).

48/48 with 8:47 left. I think the lack of baseball all spring may have made this quiz a little easier than in years past, as I was so grateful to have games to watch that even fleeting cups of coffee were memorable. If this quiz is repeated 12 months from now, I am sure to forget 2-3 of the pitchers.

Spoiler
I only remember Lail because I saw his next game with his next team and the announcers noted that his previous two games had been spent pitching for two other teams. I only got Drew Anderson because of Tim, and I incorrectly guessed Carson Fulmer just from watching his awful preseason performance. Delighted to be wrong, and curious how many waiver claims on him happen between now and next April.

Patrick Nolan

Ted – the person marked as “DH” with 14 games played needs a position fix. Spent awhile on that one.

KenWo4LiFe

44/48. Missed four relievers with 2 games or less.

Spoiler
Herrera, lail, lambert and mcrae

Feel fortunate that you could not remember the first guy.

roke1960

43/48. I missed the same 4 relievers plus our 1-game DH.

79% correct. I don’t know how you guys do it to remember so well all the players. There were a few players that definitely I would have never remember.
