Sporcle Saturday: White Sox All-Stars, 1970-2021

Good morning!

As Major League Baseball nears its traditional halfway point of the season, the All-Star Game and its surrounding events are once again upon us. I, for one, am looking forward more to the home run derby than the game itself (other than to see how the White Sox guys do), if only to see just how far Shohei Ohtani can launch balls into the rarified air that is Coors Field.

Today, we look at present and past White Sox selections to the All-Star Game, going back fifty-one years to 1970. With three selections to this year’s game, the total number of names to be guessed is 99. How many can you get? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I’ve provided the year and the position of the player.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • Pitcher has been the position most often represented by the White Sox over the years as it appears in 40 instances on this list.
  • Two positions have been represented the fewest times: second and third base have each only had 3 players appear since 1970.

98/99 before I ran out of time trying to remember which reliever I had forgotten. That turned out to be

97/99. I can’t believe the two I missed. The 1972 OF who I met at Soxfest and the 1980 pitcher. Shame on me.

To be fair, the 1980 pitcher didn’t like to talk about his trip to the All-Star game.

This quiz is, happily, out of date.

Was just gonna say! Great f-ing day for my favorite damn player on this team!

I had seen this news before taking the quiz and entered his name as my first answer. When he wasn’t a correct answer, I somehow assumed that the quiz didn’t include this year’s all-stars and so didn’t enter any of the other 3 all-stars from this year’s team.
