Sporcle Saturday: Total base leaders

Good morning, and a happy weekend to all! Since exiting in the third inning of the White Sox’ 10-1 loss to Houston on April 21, Yoan Moncada has been on a tear. Just once since then has Moncada failed to reach base, and he’s recorded at least one hit in all but two of those games. His line during this stretch?  A robust .356/.420/.689 with three home runs, four doubles, and a triple. The reports of Moncada’s demise appear to be an exaggeration.

All that said, what you’ll notice if you look at the team stats is that, prior to Friday night’s game, Moncada lead the team in total bases with 58. Now, I don’t know if he’ll keep it up all season long (I hope he does, because what joy!), but if he does, he’ll be on pace for 335 total bases: good for a share of 6th place all time in White Sox history. This, dear reader, brings us to today’s Sporcle: in White Sox history, which players have recorded at least 300 total bases in a season? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • Last names accepted, in addition to both first and last.
  • You’ll have seven minutes to attempt completion.
  • As hints, I’ve provided the season in which the player recorded their TBs, as well as the number of TBs and their primary position.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confound, and/or confuse your friends:

  • The average triple-slash from the players on this list? .312/.386/.557
  • The positions not represented on this list include catcher, shortstop, and second base. So Moncada could enter hallowed ground if he can get to 300 TBs on the season.
  • Just three players recorded over 200 hits on this list.

32/34 dirty 1930 guys. Never get them. Blind spot for me in between 1920 and 1940s

VAChisox

Exact same result. Total blanks on the 1930s guys.

Brett R. Bobysud

Same

Lurker Laura

Why do I always forget that 2012 outfielder was on the Sox? I miss him every time.

Trooper Galactus

He didn’t escape me this time, but I’ve tended to blank on him as well.

Trooper Galactus

31/34. Never would have guessed the 1920 and 1930 guys.

asinwreck

34/34 with 4:49 left. My first guess on the 1930 hitters was wrong

Spoiler
(Al Simmons)
, but there aren’t too many candidates in the Hitless Wonders’ history of the team to make this list.

KenWo4LiFe

I guessed Simmons. Then I guessed zeke bonura and Gus zernial. I knew applying didn’t have the numbers. Turns out I was 20 years late on zernial haha

Patrick Nolan

32/34….missed the 1930 duo.

Foulkelore

31/34 – Just missed the two from 1930 and the harder of the 1920 guys.

TCBullfrog

30/34. Missed the second 1920 guy, both 1930s, and for some reason I always KNOW who the 70s guy is but I can never remember his name.
