Sporcle Saturday: Pitcher categories V

Good morning, all, and welcome to the last pitching category and final Sporcle of 2020 (but not the final Sporcle Saturday; we press onward in 2021!). I hope this finds everyone having a restful final week of what’s been a difficult year, to say the very least. A brief thank you to all who played Sporcle Saturday this year, and I hope you found some diversion and enjoyment here. I look forward to entertaining you in 2021.

So, the final pitching category: strikeouts. If you’ve been following along in this series, you’ll likely be well-versed to knock out quite a few names on this list. However, there are some new names to add a bit of a challenge. To qualify, a pitcher must have struck out 100 or more batters in a season, which leaves 99 entries: how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted 10 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I’ve provided just the year and the number of strikeouts.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • Just one pure reliever made this list (1999, 123 Ks).
  • That same pitcher logged the highest ERA+ from the pitchers on this list, 222.
  • The average triple-slash against of the pitchers on this list: .255/.318/.407

99/99 with 0:54 left, and much of the time eaten was because I kept spelling one pitcher’s name wrong. You know the guy. Yes, of course, I forgot how to spell

pitcher
Jack McDowell’s
name.

Beyond that, finally my hate-guessing of

awful bust
Jaime Navarro
pays off, but
awful bust
Todd Ritchie
still falls short! Ah, pitching failures of the post-Himes era.

86/99 a couple of bad misses including the reliever.

Thanks for running these ted, I play every week and it’s always a highlight. Not doing it over kiddo naptime anymore but it’s still part of the Saturday ritual.

Speaking of Sox pitching accomplishments, MLB Network is showing Tom Seaver’s 300th win right now.

90/99. Probably could have had one or two more had I really thought about it, but no way I was gonna get the rest.
