Sporcle Saturday: Non-roster invitees, 2019 edition

Morning folks, and welcome to the 2019 NRI Sporcle. Also, happy Soxfest Saturday, and for those of you who attended, hope you had a fun time at the Friday After Party!

On Wednesday, the Sox announced their newest crop of of non-roster invitees , thus allowing Jim to carry on the rich tradition of outlining who’s who amongst the group. A perhaps leaner tradition is this week’s Sporcle, where you’ll be tasked with remembering who from past NRIs made it to the big leagues, going back to 2007. In total, there are now 65 entries: how many can you name? Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • I’ve allotted the entire 20 minutes for completion attempts.
  • For hints, I’ve provided the position of the player in question, and grouped players by year.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:

  • 56.9% of all players on this list are pitchers.
  • Of the position players on the list, a full 50% are catchers.
  • Thus, 78.4% of all players on this list are a pitcher or a catcher.

27, and I was lucky to get that many. My guesses were less knowing who actually was an NRI that year and more trying to profile the type of players who get NRIs.

37. Some were just wild guesses. The Sox have employed a lot of bad major leaguers in the last 10 years!

Squeezed out 32. I missed a couple of what should have been more recent obvious names. I figured that this was going to be the topic today; advanced suspicion didn’t really help all that much.
