Sox Machine Vegas Show: Part I
Record Date: 6/4/2022
Josh visited Las Vegas this past weekend to record two episodes. In Part I, a good friend of the show, Beefloaf from Fromthe108, joins Josh and Jim to recap the White Sox series win in Tampa. This past week has featured hot bats in Jake Burger and Danny Mendick. Can they sustain this level of performance? Should they get at-bats over the struggling veterans?
Also with the Los Angeles Angels losing 11 straight games, the White Sox somehow inch closer to a postseason spot without playing better baseball.
I have an image of Rick Hahn at the craps table, constantly rolling snake eyes.
Regarding A’s games in their current home, Chicago-based fans can fly into Oakland International Airport, which is just a 3-mile BART or car trek to the ballpark. East Bay hotels tend to be cheaper, and I quite like walking around in various parts of Oakland. That city’s Chinatown has some of the best restaurants in California.
I get the push to put the new ballpark in Jack London Square. The restaurant and bar scene is already very good, and it’s a site where the A’s could have their version of McCovey’s Cove with kayaking fans chasing after balls. It’s a much different environment than a Strip-adjacent ballpark, so we’ll see what Fisher decides to do.
Inching closer to a playoff spot without playing better baseball…seems like we have a plan and are executing it!
As someone who was intellectually conflicted but emotionally relieved at the outcome of the events of the very early minutes of July 1, 1988, I always find myself rooting for teams to stay put. I’ve been to several A’s games when visiting friends who moved out to the Bay Area and had some quirky fun. I found A’s fans to be kindred spirits to White Sox fans in their relationship with the “cooler” Giants and all things on the other side of the bay.
