Regarding Nova, I wonder if there’s space for Nova + a front of the rotation starter. I think the main motivation in bringing Nova back is depth when injuries inevitably happen, but I wonder if there’s a sort of unique role that allows the Sox to get value even when the rotation is healthy.

I’m envisioning for Nova something of an experimental role that I’m not sure has been tried before: the utility starter. Generally, I’m thinking occasionally playing the matchups and giving teams a very different look than the power pitchers the Sox currently have. It also allows them to more liberally give out rest to the top 5 starters, particularly those who have had TJS. So it’s not a straight 6 man rotation, but I’d guess Nova could get 2-4 starts a month in this role and fill in long-relief occasionally too.

No thanks on Nova 2020. He’s fine as a 5th starter. But when(if) the rotation gets to full health, he doesn’t fit as a swing man or multi-inning reliever. There will be better options.
