Project Birmingham Morning Briefing: Aug. 24, 2022

Regions Field in Birmingham

Good morning. Here’s the rundown:

LAST NIGHT: Project Birmingham opened with a bang, with five A-ball prospects delivering multiple hits in their Double-A debut in the Barons’ 11-7 victory over Mississippi.

ELSEWHERE ON THE FARM: Charlotte beats up Louisville, a depleted Winston-Salem team comes up short against Asheville, but Kannapolis is buoyed by recently drafted bats.

IN THE SHOW: The White Sox dropped the series opener in Baltimore despite spotting Dylan Cease an early lead.

TONIGHT: We’ll see how the Barons juggle a now-stacked lineup, and Lucas Giolito tries to pick up Cease for once.

AROUND THE LEAGUE: The Angels are for sale, injuries and surgeries abound, the Guardians win, and the Twins lose (with another unusual rule call going against them).

I am really looking forward to Project Chicago! It would be so cool if they built a solid major league roster, top to bottom, and then surrounded those guys with the best coaches and training staff available, and used the time together to teach the guys how to play the game the right way. – ya know, to get a head start on spring training.

I guess for now I’ll need to be satisfied with Project Birmingham. Yay!

You can find this information on baseball reference. In my opinion, this can only be 3 things.

A) you can not identify talent.
B) you can not develop talent.
C) you’re poor at both

If I missed anything or you find a mistake, please bring it forward.

other than most of those guys WAR is for other teams, I don’t see any glaring omissions.

Oh and Sale and Rodon had almost no development time.

Also, since Herm Schneider retired:

D) You can’t keep talent healthy.
