White Sox Minor Keys: Sept. 5, 2021
All things considered, Lane Ramsey has had a nice season out of the bullpen for the White Sox. He entered Sunday with a 3.61 ERA and 51 strikeouts to 13 walks over 42⅓, spread out relatively evenly between three levels.
Charlotte’s been tougher on him than Birmingham and Winston-Salem, as one might expect, but it manifested itself in ignominious fashion on Sunday. Ramsey entered the ninth inning of a tie game against Norfolk and redefined the term “walk-off” by walking all four batters he faced, with 16 of his 20 pitches missing the zone.
Norfolk 5, Charlotte 4
- Yermín Mercedes went 0-for-3 with a sac fly and a strikeout.
- Jake Burger was 2-for-4 with a homer.
- Micker Adolfo homered and struck out thrice.
Chattanooga 3, Birmingham 2
- Yolbert Sanchez grounded out in his first at-bat, then was replaced in the second inning.
- Carlos Pérez was 1-for-4 with a double.
- Yoelqui Céspedes wore the collar and silver sombrero.
- Lenyn Sosa went 2-for-4.
Rome 3, Winston-Salem 2
- Jose Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a walk, although he was caught stealing.
- Harvin Mendoza went 1-for-4.
- Caberea Weaver, 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
Down East 8, Kannapolis 2
- James Beard walked once and struck out thrice.
- Bryan Ramos struck out in both plate appearances.
- Chase Krogman went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.
- DJ Gladney homered, walked and struck out.
- Matthew Thompson didn’t make it out of the first: 0.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 24 of 33 pitches for strikes.

Those Norfolk uniforms must’ve been disorienting….
Jose Rodriguez just keeps on hitting… could he actually start next year at AA… gonna be one of many position players who get an interesting assignment
Why does it seem that every week, every pitcher in the organization is getting roughed up every single outing? I know some of the stat lines aren’t sexy but throw up John Parke with 5 innings of 2 run ball. I don’t know who that is but I need something to distract me from the daily report of a pitching prospect yanked after 1 or 2 innings.
‘Tis the season of the middle infielder….
That’s one of the concerns with the current pitching situation on the Sox – there is nothing in the minors to call up to help the situation, especially starting pitchers.
I don’t expect much from their minor league pitching, except maybe Norge. Their farm system is ranked close to last for a reason. They’re pretty lucky to have a few good position players like Rodriguez, Sheets, and Burger, so not all bad. But does not look like any help on the pitching side for next year, maybe not even in 2023.
Yeah I mean Kelly has had 12 starts and averaged less than 2 innings with horrible results, and elbow issues. Not a lot of reasons to think any of those guys are going to help any time soon.
Their four best pitching prospects entering the season (after Kopech) have all flopped horrendously, and only one of them was in the high minors. Basically every starter who has upside is just a train wreck right now.
I assume you mean Kelly, Dalquist, Thompson and either Steiver or Lambert?
I’m not too worried, a lot of the pitching prospects in the system are high upside high school picks that were always gonna be long-term projects. Steiver and Lambert need to get it going tho.
There you go guys. No need to worry about Dallas Keuchel. According to this piece of insightful baseball analysis from ARod, Dallas is poised to pitch a perfect game in game 1 of the post season.
Matthew Thompson did manage to lower his BB/9 though with his 0.1 innings and 0 BB. So there’s that.
