White Sox Minor Keys: Sept. 16, 2022

The Arizona Fall League revealed its rosters for the upcoming season, and it revealed that Project Birmingham might be serving as the White Sox’s own form of it, because they’re sending none of their big names, at least on the initial rosters.

The White Sox are contributing the following players to the Glendale Desert Dogs:

Hackenberg is the only prospect who has spent time ranked on organizational top-30 lists, but he hasn’t done much with that status this year, at least at the plate. He’s hit just .221/.316/.324 over 89 games, most of them at Winston-Salem. He’s a true catcher, which is why he’s worth paying some attention to, but he’s not somebody you follow in the box scores on a daily basis.

Tatum might’ve generated a little more interest after hitting .267/.405/.415 with 16 stolen bases between the two A-ball levels, but he was limited to 42 games after testing positive for amphetamine, resulting in a 50-game suspension.

Perhaps the Sox will add bigger names, but it seems like the White Sox are using the last three weeks of the season to test their more promising A-ball prospects against higher levels of competition, rather than sending a Luis Mieses or Norge Vera to pick up extra plate appearances and innings against more talented players.
