White Sox Minor Keys: May 20, 2018

Zack Collins had a big day for the Barons, belting a pair of solo shots along with a single and a walk in five trips to the plate in Birmingham’s loss to Montgomery on Sunday. Here’s the second one:

Seby Zavala, who was DHing on Sunday, flied out in his only trip to the plate. There didn’t seem to be any injury during the sequence (Curt Bloom raised the idea of cramps on a hot, humid afternoon).

At any rate, these two performances brought the catcher battle to a dead heat, at least according to OPS:

  • Collins: .244/.421/.456, .876 OPS
  • Zavala: .256/.358/.519, .877 OPS

That’s a remarkable turn of events for Collins given the disparity at the end of April:

  • Collins: .206/.393/.365, .758 OPS
  • Zavala: .315/.411/.616, 1.028 OPS

Have they decided if Adolfo is going to need surgery? You would think it would have to be done fairly soon in order for him to be ready for spring training.

With Robert’s return approaching I think we start to see some promotions soon. I would like to see Basabe in Birmingham and Jimenez in Charlotte.

I’d also like to see Gonzalez get the call to Winston-Salem but something would have to give with either Adolfo getting surgery and heading to the DL or one of the other outfielders going to Birmingham.

Thanks Jim. That’s good news for Adolfo to get almost a full season of at bats then.

According to Fangraphs, a 60 grade hitter is worth $60 million. Ian Desmond has around $60 million left on his contract. Brendan Rodgers is considered a 60 grade hitter, I wonder if the Rockies would be interested in trading Brendan Rodgers and Ian Desmond to save $60 million in order to possibly keep Arenado or use it to improve the rest of their team. If they don’t want  to give up Rodgers, I’d also look into acquiring Ian Desmond, Riley Pint and Ryan McMahon from the Rockies. Another thought is getting Jose Abreu involved in a trade to colorado.

Jose Abreu for Ian Desmond, Brendan Rodgers, Riley Pint, Ryan McMahon and a high potential flyer. They also have Raimel Tapia who is wasting time in AAA.

I’m just throwing out ideas here.

Those theoretical valuations rarely translate to real cash-for prospect deals. Your rosterbation is better spent yearning for Manny Machado.

That’s so absurd that it actually just may work. You’ve sold me.
