White Sox Minor Keys: May 2, 2018

Victories up and down the minor league system

Last year, the White Sox had one of the top farm systems in baseball, but it didn’t show up in the standings. The organization finished with the lowest inning percentage in the minors, although the Braves had the second-worst record to provide some solace.

This year, the records more closely align with the talent.

Charlotte: 11-14, 2½ games behind Durham in the International League South.

Birmingham: 13-13, 4½ games behind Jackson in the Southern League North.

Winston-Salem: 14-12, 2 games behind Buies Creek in the Carolina League Southern.

Kannapolis: 16-10, 2 games behind Delmarva in the South Atlantic League Northern.

All four affiliates won today, and here are the box scores to prove it.

I’m getting excited about Dunning. We need more goggled players on the Southside.

John SF

I’m pro goggle, but I can’t get myself exciting about Dunning.  His upside isn’t as high as any of our other ~~six~~ seven young promising pitchers.  And he threw at that guy last year, which was really uncool.

Let’s just put goggles on Gio and see if it helps.  I noticed he wears glasses when he’s off the field so, seriously, goggle him up.

Who is more likely to stay off 1B/DH, Matt Rose or Seb! ?

Any chance Rose can stick at 3B?

Josh Nelson

Both. Rose is not bad at 3B. If Seby can ever figure out how to block pitches better, he could be a better version of Kevan Smith.

John SF

I just read an article in the Athletic where Rose was listed as the 2nd prospect in the Quintana trade (ahead of Cease).

While that is patently ridiculous, I still assume it means he is starting to hit the radar of folks outside the Sox beat.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Still no home runs for Gavin Sheets. What’s going on? To be a legit MLB first base prospect he should be hitting a LOT of home runs.

Highest slg% in the Cape Cod League was .376.

do you think a prospect has ever before been announced to be shut down with season ending surgery, and then a day later be like “nevermind,” and then directly followed that with PoTM honors?

Greg Nix

Basabe got robbed.
