White Sox Minor Keys: June 2, 2022

You might have sensed from the lack of exciting pitching lines that the White Sox don’t have much in the way of pitching throughout the system.

Kyle Boddy, founder of Driveline Baseball and former director of pitching for the Cincinnati Reds, posted the top of bottom of the leaderboards for minor-league expected pitching stats, and it confirms our hunches.

The promotion of Davis Martin won’t help things in this regard. The White Sox scratched him from his start for Charlotte against Memphis on Thursday, with manager Julio Mosquera saying Martin is heading to St. Petersburg to join the big-league club for the Tampa Bay series.

Memphis 9, Charlotte 7 (10 innings)

  • Eloy Jiménez went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts at the DH spot.
  • Adam Haseley was 2-for-5 with a double and a stolen base.
  • Romy González pinch-hit in the 10th and delivered an RBI groundout.

Tennessee 5, Birmingham 4

  • José Rodríguez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a sac fly, and was picked off/caught stealing.
  • Lenyn Sosa went 1-for-5.
  • Yoelqui Céspedes, 1-for-5 with a double and two strikeouts.

Augusta 4, Kannapolis 0

  • Colson Montgomery was 0-for-2 with two walks.
  • DJ Gladney, 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • Wilfred Veas singled twice and struck out twice.
  • James Beard struck out all three times up.
  • Brooks Gosswein: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Winston-Salem vs. Greenville, suspended

I think it’s time to swap Sheets for Haseley. Of course, that means we’d be doing it when one was hot and the other isn’t, so that probably won’t happen.

BenwithVen

At the very least, Haseley is an actual outfielder. That alone should be enough to swap them out.

No confidence. Referendum time.

What would have to happen (other than ownership change or national scandal) for Rick Hahn to no longer be the GM of this team?

itaita

Ownership change is the only thing that will change anything. Replace Hahn with anybody and its still the same team run by a guy who will hire his 90 year old friend behind your back cause he felt bad for firing him 50 years ago.

Greg Nix

So you’re saying Hawk for GM? At least that would actually be interesting to watch…

itaita

I was going to say Gene Lamont but i dont remember if the split was a happy one or not.

metasox

System rakings are somewhat subjective. But when data confirms how bad things are, Hahn can’t push that ‘sustained success’ rhetoric. The organization needed to be all in during this window

My family is going to see the O’Fallon Hoots tonight. They play in the same college summer league as Jake Burger rehabbed in when there were no minor league games in 2020.

Also, I don’t understand how Cease was placed on the restricted list if this is correct. “Per MLB rules, starting pitchers who start within four days of a trip to Toronto cannot be placed on the restricted list.”

It looks like Lambert wasn’t added until yesterday whereas Crick was added on Monday so it must be 4 days after the last start (not “within 4 days of the trip”). Basically you can replace a starting pitcher once his turn (potentially) comes.

Basically they don’t want teams stashing an extra arm in the bullpen every time they go to Toronto

jorgefabregas

Yeah maybe they can’t fill the spot until 4 days later. His MLB page says he was placed on the restricted list on May 30, though.
