So I took my wife and one year old son to the Knights-Chiefs game last night. It was my son’s very first baseball game. The bullpens are on the field in Syracuse, so between games we went down and watched the team warm up. Since the first game was the end of a suspended one there was barely anybody there. A few autograph hounds and one other Sox fan with his daughter was there with me and my family. Charlie Tilson was first out of the dugout and seemed cool. Eloy came out right after and was talking to people and stretched. After a few minutes he came over to my kid and gave him an autographed ball (is it shameful to use a toddler to meet a player? He’s increased my grocery bill substantially, so we’ll call it even). Said he was feeling better, just getting over a stomach bug. He chuckled when we told my kid that this is who he’s going to be rooting for when he gets older. My son immediately proceeded to throw the ball back onto the field. Carson Fulmer went to toss it back to us but a field attendant beat him to it. Throughout the game Rondon and Eloy had a good time with the hecklers in the crowd, especially after Rondon dropped a loud f-bomb after popping out in the second. All in all a really cool experience, with a crazy amount of unfettered access to players.Â
1) Is the guy who spends the whole time yelling still there?
2) Does Syracuse still run the promotion where it designates a visiting player for free tacos if he strikes out?
3) If so, does the guy referred to in 1) still go with “Taco Time?”
That yelling guy was there, wet towel under his hat and all. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a game there when he wasn’t yelling nonstop, and I’ve been going to Chiefs games for at least 15 years. To our dismay, the Taco Bell K guy wasn’t a thing this year. That promotion always got the crowd going. It was dollar hot dog day however, and they were Hoffman’s, so I didn’t need a taco when all was said and done.
He annoyed me the first game I went to, but I’ve grown to greatly respect him over the years.
Awesome recap, Utica. Very cool that your son got to meet Eloy!
Also, didn’t see Kopech, but he may have been hiding out in the clubhouse and dugout
Tilson and Cordell don’t seem to be forcing the issue for next year’s starting CF.
They sound more like a country duo or jobber wrestling tag team, anyway.
I was injured on the job. So I called Tilson and Cordell.
“Nobody knows being paid to be injured like Tilson and Cordell!”
“They say a man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client. Try telling that to Tilson and Cordell.”
“Tilson and Cordell. Injury experience you can count on.”
