Why is it that good teams have an occasional walk but the Sox get 3 in the first inning? Maybe just a pitching coach should have more influence ?

As Cirensica

Stone and Benetti saying the Sox should give as many at bats to Abreu as possible in the moment Robert is out at 2B trying to steal ending the inning and leaving Abreu with his bat at his shoulders.

As Cirensica

Seeing Kapler’s homer and I keep thinking why this team can’t hit homers. Even the bad tanking teams hit more homers than this squad. Mystery

Adam

I think the why is easy. Sox hitters swung at too many bad pitches. Whether it’s the first pitch of the at bat or 2-1, 3-1. They swung at sliders or knuckle curves out of the zone. Our hitters never lay off, go deeper in the count and force the pitcher to make the hitters pitch. Can’t wait to swing at the pitchers pitch. Which also puts the starter at 45 pitches in the 6th inning and generally no mistakes due to fatigue.

As Cirensica

Definitely part of the reason

As Cirensica

As I typed this, the Twins hit another homer.

Adam

Even Celestino testing the wall. Not a good feeling about this buxton ab coming

Nellie Fox

Why is it the Sox had all the studs that were going to set the major leagues on fire but the twins and Indians just have average players who make the Sox look like shit?

hellotowel

At what point does this team become sellers? It has to be clear to management that this just isn’t working.

OldMMJ87

I think Abreu is the only guy we have that any team would be interested in trading for and I’m not entirely too sure if Reinsdorf lets Hahn trade him away.

As Cirensica

liam Hendriks and Graveman are very tradeable. Probably Giolito too.

OldMMJ87

If you’re trading Giolito, I suspect you’re tearing the whole thing down and maybe that makes sense to do but I am loathe to give Hahn the keys to his third attempt at a rebuild.

As Cirensica

Trading Giolito is not necessarily a complete tear down.

metasox

Yes, trading Berrios seems to have worked ok for the Twins

metasox

If it came to that, I would hope the Sox would offer to move Abreu as a courtesy

Cueto would be an obvious move. Not talking big returns, but promising relievers are a good get for a team prone to expensive, injured free agents.

As Cirensica

Another mystery, why can’t we win consistently at home?
I am very close to call this season as done and see you next year. The only pleasure out of that is TLR losing his chances to a post season. I hope they lose a lot of games. Maybe TLR resigns. That will be a small victory in this disaster of a season.

Adam

I agree here. The home record is my biggest mystery. Makes no sense. It’s a great place to hit, hitters should see the ball best at their own park. They just can’t get it going. Maybe a bit of bad luck. Like catching Boston red hot in Chicago but ice cold in Boston. But we’re too late in the season for luck alone

Foulkelore

Two words: home runs

As Cirensica

The lack of

Foulkelore

They just announced the differential so far this year: Out homered 52 to 32 in their home park.

As Cirensica

More homers by Twins…why can’t we do that. Polanco, a middle infielder has 10 homers.

Another homer. I am done. Will Netflix for a while. Might check the game later.

soxygen

The Twins really mash RHP

ForsterFTOG

Like watching a team in September playing out the string.
Oh look. Tony woke up.

Foulkelore

There’s the fifth home run for the Twins. Don’t worry. Frank Menechino is devising a strategy to have our guys hit the ball up the middle or the opposite way as we speak.

As Cirensica

I wonder if the Twins have more homers tonight than the White Sox in the last 2 weeks, but let’s keep talking how hard the White Sox hit the ball to get their outs.

Foulkelore

Holy crap. The Sox have hit an MLB worst 4 home runs in the last two weeks (since June 21st). So, you’re correct. The Twins have hit more home runs tonight than the White Sox have hit in the last two weeks. There are only two other teams in single digits (Washington and San Diego with 7 and 8). Eight teams have hit 20+, including Minnesota, and I don’t believe that includes tonight.

As Cirensica

Thanks. That’s truly pathetic.

Augusto Barojas

Abreu is the only Sox player with at least 10 homers (and he only has 10). The Astros have like 5, the Yankees 4 or 5. The Sox are basically a team with above average pitching and a below average offense. They wouldn’t have even the slightest prayer of a playoff spot if they were in any other division.

asinwreck

Jerry Reinsdorf is in the building for tonight’s game, so here’s hoping this sorry display at least gives him indigestion. (Not that it will cause him to hire competent management or anything so rash.)

OldMMJ87

You know, I keep thinking about that quote he allegedly told one of the guys who used to own the Marlins about how the best thing a team could do is come in second place, I keep thinking about that quote and wondering if maybe he isn’t pretty pleased with the way this is all playing out

OldMMJ87

I meant to say “isn’t somewhat pleased” instead of “pretty pleased” but either way, my point is I don’t think he really minds this

Augusto Barojas

When this rain delay ends the Twins are really in trouble, if Tony wakes up. I’m sure he’s figuring out a way to pull this one out even as he sleeps.

ParisSox

Just waking up to this shitshow.

This season is cooked but like the Twins last year, they aren’t far off. Clean house on coaches and management except for Katz an Paddy, and let’s try again next year with this core.
