As Cirensica

Any news regarding Robert?

snoopy369

Not a broken wrist, but a “sprain”, day to day.

calcetinesblancos

What a crappy defensive outfield.

As Cirensica

We should be used to it by now

snoopy369

Aaaand this is already proven prescient. Sigh.

Adam

Moncada!!! What a play

Adam

Upnorthsox will be happy, we got a first inning run.

upnorthsox

Indeed and we won too scoring 6.

snoopy369

What is this … scoring runs in the first inning? I thought we had a contractual agreement that we’d spot the opponents an inning?

HouseOfTheRisingSox

Nice start. Some good at-bats, taking an extra base, a few really good defensive plays……I’ll take it

HouseOfTheRisingSox

That comment aged poorly in a hurry. Blown strike three call by ump then Eloy’s interesting route. Well shit

As Cirensica

LMAO…..this White Sox outfielders are an embarrassment

Adam

One minor thing goes wrong and they unravel. Jesus. Eloy damn near caught that with his forehead

snoopy369

The truly sad thing is they have to rule that a hit… why we don’t have a category of error “mental”, I’ll never understand.

Adam

If it wouldn’t lead to self mutilation, I’d love someone to watch every game this year for a mental error count. League leaders for sure

Whoom

Can we get a real major league outfielder?

Augusto Barojas

There is just no way this team is ever going to be great, or very good, or maybe even good, with this defense.

ForsterFTOG

And offense.

Augusto Barojas

True. But as for defense, none out of Eloy, Vaughn, or Sheets are major league outfielders. They are going to have to face that sooner or later.

The only way to improve the defense is to change the roster. That’s pretty much all there is to it.

Root Cause

Is it a coincidence that several players seem to have blurred vision ever since we traveled to the gummy bear capital at, of all things, mile HIGH stadium?

soxygen

Gavin Sheets is not very good. But he comes to the plate with a plan and he never seems to be half-assing it.

The guy is a ballplayer. We don’t have very many of those.

Was thinking the same. It’s so much easier to root for and forgive for mistakes, the guys who get after it. Even Leury. I want to like Leury. He makes it hard. But I still try

soxygen

Eloy (a horrible fielder, but he does play hard) and Harrison (his best days are behind him) are in that bucket too.

There are a small number of position players who give it their all almost every time they are in the game. It’s the others I worry about.

Augusto Barojas

I don’t dislike Leury. He doesn’t seem lazy, or like he has a bad personality. It’s the Russa that makes people bitch about Leury. If he played 1/2 or 1/3 of the games he’s played, like any normal manager would use him, nobody would be talking about Leury at all.

calcetinesblancos

Ok that last half inning sucked, but it’s good to see them focus and get a run back right away.

Adam

Admittedly I’m not the most familiar with the arbitration process but do we stand to gain significant cost savings from Giolitos bad year? Like original projection may be 25m but since he’s one of the worst pitchers in baseball it comes in at 15m? Just curious.

soxygen

Performance this year will have an impact on the amount of the arb raise. I think arb raises have historically been sensitive to things like innings pitched, strikeouts, ERA, etc.

You can see how a good year affects arb raises for guys entering the final year of
arb eligibility if you look at the raises of someone who has a really good year (off the top of my head,
Manaea might be a good example from last year) versus a player who has a so-so year (Zach Eflin might be a good example).

(I was looking at this recently because I was curious about next year’s payroll.)

Here is a recent fan graph analysis of arb salaries.

Here’s an older one that is worth taking a look at if you are curious. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/modeling-salary-arbitration-stat-components/

Adam

Thank you sir!!

Nellie Fox

Why is moncada batting 2nd. That neutralizes the entire offense. No matter what color his shoes are.

Adam

These two fanbases are watching this game like what the heck is this foreign brand of baseball?

Nellie Fox

Oh yawn, moncada strikes out again

Adam

Big hustle play by Abreu pays off! Great to see

soxygen

In a year with so many disappointments, Lopez’s progress has been a nice development.

Nellie Fox

Funny , but if the Sox would have swept the royals, they would be first if they win tonight.

a-t

What, no more comments about Moncada?

soxygen

Moncada had a nice game and got his season average all the way up to .202…
