If Cease can only strike out every batter, they just might have a chance this game.

Adam

With Harrison in left, it would be wise

Foulkelore

Cool, they did that thing where they hit ball over the outfield wall and it counts for runs!

Adam

Seeing our outfielder hustling and successfully thwarting a double is very satisfying. Go Gavin

Adam

Lenyns first hit!!! Take that Leury

a-t

Can’t get BABIPed if they don’t put it in play

Adam

People criticize Cease when a good team gets to him, but this game points out how incredibly valuable it is to have a guy who can just torch a lower level team.

Augusto Barojas

I don’t know how anybody could have a problem with Cease because he has a bad game every once in a while. Today’s earned run is the first he has given up in his last 6 starts. Granted he hasn’t been sharp all of those, but geez. He can be friggin dominant, the Jays are a very good hitting team and he shut them down. He’s one of the only bright spots on the roster.

Adam

I think a lot of people expect Verlander of today level right away and forgot that JV, like every young pitcher, struggled too.

Augusto Barojas

He’s got a sub 2.6 ERA and after today might be leading MLB in K’s. That’s not exactly struggling. He is one of their only don’t-trade pieces.

FishSox

Remind me, what was that exactly? I remember he and Sherzer steamrolling opponents as young pitchers. He had one year in 2008 with a 4.84 at age 25, other than that, not so much for struggles from JV.

I believe Steve Stone said during his start against us that outside of his first ever outing, he was able to figure it out and was very good. So perhaps the thought was, in those first few years the White Sox (they had a graphic) beat up on him more but then he started to contain us as well (would imagine because our team also was getting worse in those years). So I agree, I don’t see “struggles” from him.

If TLR is totally unable to find it in his heart to forgive Adam Haseley, then maybe they should bring someone else up.

Adam

I think Yoan returns Tuesday so I’m guessing we say goodbye to Hasely then. For as long as Yoan can stay upright that is

Right Size Wrong Shape

Maybe. I assumed Sosa would be going to Charlotte.

Adam

I wonder if that is why we got Josh Harrison, outfielder today. Keep Sosa up a bit longer and Harrison takes Haselys reps. Left/right aspect doesn’t match but Gavin stays as the lefty outfielder now. Sosa maybe goes when Engel returns? Or maybe xmas comes early and Leury hits the IL with side soreness

Foulkelore

He was supposed to start today, but is under the weather.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Thanks!

Foulkelore

Oh wow, Abreu with two, horrible back-to-back errors.

Adam

Followed by a 4 pitch walk to Mateo, setting up quite the disaster here

Adam

Boy if they aren’t channeling the winning ugly mantra.

Denman

Jesus, what percentage of the payroll goes to the bullpen?

Joliet Orange Sox

Today’s late drama wasn’t the bullpen’s fault. Kelly and Graveman were both ok. I was surprised the 2nd hit in the 8th wasn’t ruled an error and it certainly was a play that gets made except when a DH is playing third (exit velocity = 83.3 mph, xBA = 0.090). Then Abreu’s two errors led to the drama in the 9th.

As Cirensica

Didn’t watch this one. Needed a break from heartbreaking things. Glad they won. Too bad I missed Sosa’s 1st hit

the young guns Cease and Kopech stepping up are what is keeping this team somewhat afloat. much of this organization sucks but the upper level pitching dev and Ethan Katz do not. turning that pair from talented throwers into two of the best young starters in baseball is good work
