Why is it Martin and not Cueto?

upnorthsox

Why is it Kopech and not Robert? And not even retroactive? Does that mean we have officially conceded? Francona truly is playing 4D chess, he inexplicably concedes a game to the Sox and a day later the Sox inexplicably concede the season to the Guardians. I am humbled in his presence.

ParisSox

I see the story now.

funkerdan

Baddoo hits a triple where I think if anyone of us were running it would be a single and if any other outfielder were there (true outfielder) it would be a double for anyone other than us. I’m feeling salty and I hate salt with my tequila.

funkerdan

good thing you’re on a cab ride, then.

As Cirensica

Thought the game was at 7 pm…tuning in late. Guess haven’t missed much

funkerdan

and you didn’t miss the nasally powering chicago obnoxiousness that is this season

funkerdan

impulse buy. going to the game tomorrow.

As Cirensica

Why does that run the Tigers scored feels like five runs.

/rhetorical

upnorthsox

It’s a run and 4 drink chips, they’ll be back for the others soon.

funkerdan

I pocket all my drink chips and Dave gets pissed every time.

upnorthsox

My buddy was like that, he was a 3 drink alcoholic with a bunch of 12 drink friends. After his 3rd he’d start piling those chips up and ended up having enough chips to drink the rest of the week. I miss him a lot.

The Twins are going to have the ALC race pretty much settled by a couple days, it seems.

metasox

Does Francona have the team wearing Yankee pinstripes? Smart

funkerdan

doesn’t work for us having very similar but better stripes.

a-t

it’s really incredible. seven straight dropped to Cleveland, trending towards eight at the moment lmao

funkerdan

good thing we have 6 with them and they have all those with KC? whereas if it were the Guards with Mini and us with KC, we’re out by like 12 at season’s end.

metasox

I have been impressed overall. They looked bad against Seattle, but not much else has phased them recently. I had thought the Angels series might trip them up

Garbage team

upnorthsox

I don’t care if he has one of the 3 hits, I am not a fan of Moncada hitting 2nd. At least this year.

funkerdan

I don’t think I want him batting ever again. Hopefully that changes but not this year, as you say

upnorthsox

and there one of those chips getting cashed in.

funkerdan

I paid for my own.

metasox

I don’t know what just happend. Looked like Andrus was expecting a run down.

funkerdan

how many walk offs this series? 😬

funkerdan

hopefully not 3. otherwise we #%&!()

funkerdan

well, not 3, so that’s good.

upnorthsox

Ok Jim, assuming we survive the bottom of the 9th, do we try bunting him over or play “the book” again? It’s even Yaz as the Manfred man again.

funkerdan

strike out 3 times and pretend we ever had a chance.

upnorthsox

I’m thinking that’d be even money.

upnorthsox

Lol. Third extra inning game in a row we haven’t moved the runner to 3rd, and vs Baltimore was a twofer as we couldn’t do it twice.

They might not have scored but I liked Detroit’s progression better. They were only needed 10-15 feet more on that fly ball to score.

upnorthsox

Wait a bunt? Must’ve been a missed sign but it worked. Amazing.

Joliet Orange Sox

I think the Fangraphs’ article Jim linked to in the other discussion about bunting in extra innings makes it pretty clear that bunting as the visiting team is never a good strategy while bunting as the home team when tied or down one can be a good strategy. Ben Clemens, the author of the article, makes some assumptions that are very optimistic about the batter being able to lay down the bunt successfully and still concludes that bunting as the visiting team is never a good strategy.

What exactly did you disagree with in Clemens’ analysis?

charlie

I don’t care about articles or others’ opinions. I care about instinct, not past history and going back to the discussion with Jim mine is especially when you’re at the bottom of the order bunting on the road puts you in the best position to get that run in…even if it’s just the one then take your chances that your pitching will be good enough to stop them.

charlie

Of course we can discuss, I’m saying I don’t base my beliefs or choices on others’ opinions.
It seems like you’re minimizing with the bottom of the order the best chance to get the runner to 3rd and then in starts with a bunt (regardless of how often the Sox have failed in the past) and that one run with good pitching has a real good chance to get you the win.

charlie

And I say he made a terrible mistake in what was at that time the biggest moment of the season and therefore the choice was absolutely not valid.

Root Cause

It looked as if Garcia’s black mit had a finger missing as he waved it at the fans while stuck between 2nd and 3rd.

metasox

Sheets is 2 for the last 22 and 6 for 45. Yikes. He makes contact but doesn’t get a heck of a lot out of it

2nd time in a row the White Sox unable to even move to 3B the Manfred man

metasox

Time for the Sox to begin doing the opposite of whatever they think is right

upnorthsox

Oh fuck, Bummer.

upnorthsox

Bummer’s throwing strikes tonight. Might as well put him back on the IR after this as he wont be able to do that again this season.

As Cirensica

Phew

upnorthsox

And that’s a White Sox winner!
