Aside from his homer Eloy has sure been less than spectacular since coming back, to say the least.

Joliet Orange Sox

That Engel hit was very babippy.

Foulkelore

This ump is brutal. Hendricks is getting one of the old Maddux/Glavine strike zones where the catcher just kept setting up more outside, and the umps would keep calling strikes as those guys hit the mitt.

jhomeslice

Vaughn continues to be maybe their best hitter for the time being. Very fortunate they did not trade him, have to love what he has done his first year.

LamarHoyt_oncrack

Wow does this cubs lineup look like a AAA team. I don’t know most of these names, everybody gone. Would be almost sad if I had not been taught at a young age that their team is pure evil.

Shingos Cheeseburgers

I love the contact play more than life itself. It’s the reason I watch the game.

Foulkelore

Hey, at least they didn’t get a double play by having the runner home cross back over the base or runner behind him. Progress!

dwjm3

I’m not taking Eloy out in the sixth for Goodwin

Foulkelore

Then again, Eloy might be dead now if that’s him in LF instead of Vaughn with Tim running towards him.

HouseOfTheRisingSox

With 20/20 hindsight, that worked. But I agree….seemed early

Goodwin’s homer proves that it is another example of TLR “genius”. He has gotten lucky as hell with a few seemingly questionable or stupid moves.

Joliet Orange Sox

“This’ll get ’em out of it…I believe…Goodwin backpedaling……He’s got it.”

Len Kasper hedging was not reassuring but it worked out.

Shingos Cheeseburgers

Ump scorecard tomorrow will be a good one

xubrent

I can’t remember the last time Moncada swung at the first pitch. The pitcher could throw him a meatball knowing Moncada will take the pitch.

Foulkelore

Great Cesar’s ghost! Sorry.

roke1960

Hernandez has been such a great pickup for the Sox. Brilliant move by Hahn.

asinwreck

ESPN’s live box score shows Craig Kimbrel in a Cubs hat facing Ian Happ.

asinwreck

Are they saying he is a double agent?

Foulkelore

That could explain his performance today.

To Err is Herrmann

Two really nice at-bats by Seby Zavala today. If he can bat .235 if some clutch hits, that’s all he needs to do.

To Err is Herrmann

Great. The Cubs just tied it. Off Kimbrel no less. Still happy about Seby’s day. Looks like he will have to go 3-for-5 to pull this one out for us.

Shingos Cheeseburgers

Maybe it’s the scouting and pitch calling that’s the problem and not the relievers?

Foulkelore

This is just a rough stretch for the Sox. And when certain elements are going well, they aren’t syncing up. They get three home runs from Zavala and explode to score 11, but give up 12 and lose. They have a couple games with great starting pitching and late leads have dominant bullpen arms blow the leads (Hendriks and Kimbrel both recently). They aren’t hitting well, and I guess that’s the point – there’s little margin for error, leading to a lot of the frustrating losses, but it still feels a bit unlucky, even with that consideration. Hopefully, they can pull this one out.

Shingos Cheeseburgers

Man I wish the Sox had some lock down pen guys like Heuer

joewho112

I have a feeling he is going to be their Matt Thornton

HouseOfTheRisingSox

Liam looks like big fan of extra innings there

LamarHoyt_oncrack

Kimbrel has always been a closer, with about 300 more career saves than Liam. It might not be the wisest thing to make Kimbrel the 8th inning guy, closers don’t always do well in that role. Liam sometimes comes in in the 8th anyway, he might be able to adjust to being an 8th inning setup guy better than Kimbrel.

joewho112

Brian Goodwin just killed a man!

Yolmer's gatorade

Goodwin! He’d be a good one to bring back as a bench player next year for a couple million guaranteed. He has a lot of limits as a starter but can be good for stretches and definitely has a clutch gene.

jhomeslice

I like the dude. Not as a starter but very worthwhile bench player vs RHP’s.

dwjm3

Come on pen finish them

jhomeslice

Finally. That was some kind of ugly game that didn’t need to be close. But maybe the 10th inning will spark them out of their offensive doldrums.

dwjm3

I honestly think the offense is close and Robert coming back will add fuel to the fire.
