Retherford returns [to Birmingham] after struggling in Triple-A Charlotte and having a dustup with Knights man­ager Chris Chambliss.
“It was just a little run-in with the manager. I think we’ve solved that,” Rether­ford said. “He put down a sign, it caught me off guard, and I was frustrated and reached a boiling point. It was very unlike me.”

    • Tyler Flowers and Jordan Danks went 0-for-4; Danks struck out twice as often.
    • Brent Morel went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
    • Jeff Marquez allowed one run on four hits and a walk over seven innings, striking out three.
  • Birmingham 6, Mississippi 4
    • Justin Greene went 1-for-4 with a K and two runs scored.
    • Christian Marrero singled, walked and was caught stealing.
    • C.J. Retherford went 2-for-4 with a double and a strikeout.
  • Winston-Salem 4, Potomac 2
    • Chris Sale pitched a scoreless inning in his pro debut. A walk was the only blemish.
    • Josh Phegley went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
    • Eduardo Escobar went 3-for-4 with a double.
    • Brandon Short was hitless in five at-bats; Jose Martinez did the same over four.
    • Terry Doyle struck out seven over seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk.
    • Kyle Bellamy struck out the side in a perfect ninth.
  • Asheville 5, Kannapolis 0
    • Andre Rienzo was solid in defeat: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K.
    • Miguel Gonzalez was 1-for-3 with a strikeout.
    • Nick Ciolli was 0-for-4; Brady Shoemaker 0-for-2 with a walk and a K.
  • Bristol 5, Greeneville 2
    • Ryan Buch allowed just a hit and a walk over six innings while striking out seven.
    • Daniel Black went 1-for-4 with two RBI; Rangel Ravelo was also 1-for-4.
    • Tyler Saladino was hitless over four ABs, striking out once.
  • Great Falls 10, Missoula 6
    • David Holmberg allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk, striking out three.
    • Ross Wilson singled, walked twice and scored twice.
    • Juan Silverio was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.
